- Description: भारत विश्व के ऐसे देशों की श्रेणी में शुमार किया जाता है जहाँ सबसे अधिक फ़िल्मों का निर्माण होता है, लेकिन विडम्बना यह है कि फ़िल्म निर्देशन पर अब तक हिन्दी में कोई किताब नहीं थी। कुलदीप सिन्हा ने 'फ़िल्म निर्देशन' पुस्तक लिखकर यह कमी पूरी कर दी है, इसलिए उनकी यह पहल ऐतिहासिक है। श्री सिन्हा पुणे फ़िल्म इंस्टीट्यूट से प्रशिक्षित फ़िल्मकार हैं। राष्ट्रीय एवं अन्तरराष्ट्रीय पुरस्कार प्राप्त अनेक फ़िल्मों के वे निर्माता-निर्देशक रहे हैं। इसलिए उनकी इस पुस्तक में निर्देशन के सैद्धान्तिक विवेचन के साथ ही उसके व्यावहारिक पक्ष को सूक्ष्मता और विस्तार से विवेचित किया गया है। पुस्तक 11 दृश्यों में विभक्त है। प्रत्येक दृश्य में निर्देशन के अलग-अलग मुद्दों तथा तकनीकी प्रसंगों को सहजता के साथ स्पष्ट किया गया है। श्री सिन्हा पहले बताते हैं कि फ़िल्म को फ़्लोर पर ले जाने के पूर्व क्या तैयारी करनी चाहिए! फ़िल्म की निर्माण-योजना में सन्तुलन के लिए क्या सावधानी बरतें! इसके बाद उन्होंने संक्षेप में पटकथा-लेखन के प्रमुख बिन्दुओं की भी चर्चा की है। लाइटिंग और कम्पोजीशन के सिलसिले में व्यावहारिक सुझाव दिए हैं। फ़िल्म सेंसरशिप की कार्यप्रणाली तथा उसके विषय पर प्रकाश डाला है। और अन्त में 'निर्देशक' कुलदीप सिन्हा ने अपनी पसन्द के कुछ हिन्दी फ़िल्म निर्देशकों जैसे—शान्ताराम, विमल राय, गुरुदत्त और राजकपूर आदि के ऐतिहासिक योगदान का महत्त्वपूर्ण विश्लेषण किया है। इसी प्रसंग में भारत में सिनेमा के इतिहास का संक्षिप्त रेखांकन भी हो गया है। आम लोग इस पुस्तक से यह आसानी से जान सकते हैं कि जो सिनेमा वे इतने चाव से देखते हैं, वह बनता कैसे है? और जो लोग फ़िल्म निर्माण के क्षेत्र में जाना चाहते हैं, उनके लिए यह पुस्तक प्रवेशद्वार की तरह है। जो लोग फ़िल्म आलोचना से सम्बद्ध हैं, उनके सामने कुलदीप सिन्हा की यह पुस्तक अनेक अनुद्घाटित व्यावहारिक पक्षों को सामने लाती है। कुलदीप सिन्हा की इस बहुआयामी पुस्तक की उपयोगिता को देखते हुए मैं उन्हें इस नए दौर का 'सिनेमा गुरु' कहना चाहता हूँ। —सुरेश शर्मा, राष्ट्रीय पुरस्कार प्राप्त फ़िल्म आलोचक।

- Description: सिनेमा छवियों का खेल है। उन्हीं चेहरों ने अवाम के दिलों पर राज किया है जो उनके भीतर एक छवि की तरह समा गए। हिन्दी सिनेमा में कुन्दनलाल सहगल से लेकर शाहरुख़ ख़ान तक अलग-अलग कालखंडों में अनेक छवियों ने दर्शकों को सम्मोहित किया। कुछ अपना सम्मोहन अल्पकाल में ही खो बैठीं और कुछ आज तक नुमायाँ हैं। सिनेमा के पर्दे पर कोई छवि तभी मक़बूल होती है जब कलाकार द्वारा अभिनीत पात्र उसके व्यक्तित्व को आच्छादित कर लेते हैं। अपने चरित्र से एकमेक होकर जब कोई कलाकार किसी सार्थक कृति में प्रस्तुत होता है तब कहीं जाकर एक इमेज में ढल पाता है। अनेक प्रतिभाशाली अभिनेता किसी सार्थक चरित्र की प्रतीक्षा ही करते रह जाते हैं और उनकी समूची प्रतिभा सार्थकता का सन्धान नहीं कर पाती। वहीं इसके विपरीत साधारण क्षमता के अभिनेता भी किसी सार्थक चरित्र के द्वारा एक हरदिल-अज़ीज़ इमेज में तब्दील होकर यादगार बन जाते हैं। कुन्दनलाल सहगल, अशोक कुमार, दिलीप कुमार, राजकपूर, देव आनन्द, बलराज साहनी जैसी अनेक छवियाँ आज सिनेमा के वर्तमान में मौजूद न होते हुए भी अपनी जीवन्त उपस्थिति अपनी छवियों के कारण ही बनाए हुए हैं। इक्कीसवीं शताब्दी में हिन्दी सिनेमा ने एक नई छवि गढ़ी—मुन्नाभाई। उसे संजय दत्त ने इस तरह अंजाम दिया कि संजय दत्त खो गया और मुन्नाभाई ने उसकी जगह ले ली। मुन्नाभाई की यह छवि इक्कीसवीं शताब्दी में आज सबसे महत्त्वपूर्ण हो गई है तो सिर्फ़ इसलिए क्योंकि यह यथार्थ और कल्पना को एकाकार करते हुए हमें आत्मावलोकन के लिए प्रेरित करती है। वह हमारे भीतर इस तरह पैठती है कि हम सत् की ओर एक क़दम आगे बढ़ाने का प्रयास करते हैं। नकारात्मक छवियों का भयानक संजाल तोड़कर मुन्नाभाई जीवन के सकारात्मक बिम्ब को उभारता है। सो, ‘जुग जुग जिए मुन्नाभाई’—जो आदमी से इंसान बनने की प्रक्रिया में हमारा हमसफ़र बनता है। वह छवि जो हिन्दी सिनेमा में सबसे नई उभरकर ही नहीं आई है, अपितु जिसने परिदृश्य को सार्थक दिशा की ओर मोड़ने में भी अपना विनम्र योगदान दिया है।
