- Description: कथा सम्राट् प्रेमचंद के समकालीन कथाकार विश्वंभरनाथ शर्मा ‘कौशिक’ की सवा सौवीं जयंती पर साहित्य अकादेमी ने राष्ट्रीय संगोष्ठी कर उन्हें याद किया तो अच्छा लगा, क्योंकि सन् 1991 में जब उनकी जन्मशती पड़ी तो देश में कहीं भी कोई आयोजन नहीं हुआ—न तो हरियाणा में, जहाँ वे जनमे, न ही उत्तर प्रदेश में, जहाँ आखिरी साँस ली, जबकि वे बहुआयामी व्यक्तित्व के सर्जक-संपादक रहे। चाहे कहानी हो, उपन्यास, हास्य-व्यंग्य लेखन या ‘हिंदी मनोरंजन’ पत्रिका का संपादन, कौशिकजी हर जगह छाप छोड़ते रहे। चाहे स्त्री की पीड़ा का चित्रण हो, संयुक्त परिवार की समस्या, हिंदू-मुसलिम मामला या विश्वयुद्ध, कौशिकजी की कलम हर जगह बेमिसाल रही। उनकी कृतियों में विधागत वैविध्य तो है ही, उन्होंने प्रयोग भी खूब किए, जबकि उनके समय के समकालीन लेखक प्रयोग करने से बचते रहे। सामाजिक सरोकारों और मानव के सूक्ष्म मनोभावों को कथारस में भिगोकर लिखनेवाले कथाकारों में विश्वंभरनाथ शर्मा ‘कौशिक’ का स्थान सर्वोपरि है। उन्होंने हिंदी कहानी को स्थापित करने में महत्त्वपूर्ण भूमिका निभाई। उस काल में हिंदी लेखन का प्रचलन कम था। लोग प्रायः उर्दू या अंग्रेजी में लिखते थे। उन्होंने तब हिंदी में लिखकर प्रशंसनीय काम किया। उनसे पहले जयशंकर प्रसाद और जी.पी. श्रीवास्तव हिंदी में लिख रहे। गुलेरी और प्रेमचंद उनके बाद आए। प्रेमचंद की तरह विश्वंभरनाथ शर्मा ‘कौशिक’ ने भी तीन सौ से अधिक कहानियाँ लिखी हैं। उन्हीं में से चुनी हुई उनकी लोकप्रिय कहानियाँ इस संग्रह में प्रस्तुत हैं।

- Description: यह आम धारणा है कि सरदार पटेल कांग्रेस के तीन दिग्गजों-महात्मा गांधी, पं. नेहरू और सुभाषचंद्र बोस के खिलाफ थे। किंतु यह मात्र दुष्प्रचार ही है। हाँ कुछ मामलों में-खासकर सामरिक नीति के मामलों में-उनके बीच कुछ मतभेद जरूर थे, पर मनभेद नहीं था। परंतु जैसा कि इस पुस्तक में उद्घाटित किया गया है, सरदार पटेल ने पाकिस्तान को 55 करोड़ रुपए दिए जाने के प्रस्ताव पर गांधीजी का विरोध नहीं किया था; यद्यपि वह समझ गए थे कि ऐसा करने की कीमत चुकानी पड़ेगी। इसी तरह उन्होंने प्रधानमंत्री के रूप में पं. नेहरू के प्रति भी उपयुक्त सम्मान प्रदर्शित किया। उन्होंने ही भारत को ब्रिटिश राष्ट्रमंडल में शामिल करने के लिए पं. नेहरू को तैयार किया था; यद्यपि नेहरू पूरी तरह इसके पक्ष में नहीं थे। जहाँ तक सुभाष चंद्र बोस के साथ उनके संबंधों की बात है, वे सन् 1939 में दूसरी बार सुभाषचंद्र बोस को कांग्रेस का अध्यक्ष चुने जाने के खिलाफ थे। सुभाषचंद्र बोस ने जिस प्रकार सरदार पटेल के बड़े भाई विट्ठलभाई पटेल-जिनका विएना में निधन हो गया था-के अंतिम संस्कार में मदद की थी, उससे दोनों के मध्य आपसी प्रेम और सम्मान की भावना का पता चलता है। अपने समय के चार दिग्गजों के परस्पर संबंधों और विचारों की झलक देती महत्त्वपूर्ण पुस्तक।
