Cyrus Mistry
Cyrus Mistry, an Indian author and playwright, was born on March 11, 1956. His book Chronicle of a Corpse Bearer won the 2014 DSC Prize for South Asian Literature. He is the brother of author Rohinton Mistry. Mistry is from Mumbai and started writing at a young age. He has worked as a journalist and short-story writer and has also written short film scripts and documentaries. One of his short stories, "Percy," was turned into the Gujarati feature film Percy in 1989, which won the National Award for Best Gujarati Film in 1989 and a Critics' Award at the Mannheim Film Festival. Mistry's play Doongaji House is considered a seminal work in contemporary Indian theatre in English. His first novel, The Radiance of Ashes, was shortlisted for the Crossword Prize in 2005. His second novel, Chronicle of a Corpse Bearer, was published in 2013. It tells the story of the Khandhias, who are part of the Parsi community and carry the bodies of the dead to the Towers of Silence, where vultures eat them.
