- Description: किसी कहानी को लोकप्रिय तो पाठक ही बनाता है। जो रचना पाठकों द्वारा पढ़ी ही न जाए, वह लोकप्रिय नहीं होती। किंतु इसका अर्थ यह नहीं है कि जो रचना लेखक को प्रिय न हो, पाठक उसे लोकप्रिय बना देगा। वस्तुतः कहानियाँ लेखक और पाठक दोनों की रुचि से लोकप्रिय बनती हैं। मैंने 1960-70 के दौर में कहानियाँ लिखी थीं। तब तक वे उपन्यास नहीं लिखे गए थे, जिन्होंने अपनी लोकप्रियता के बल पर कहानियों की चर्चा को मंद कर दिया है। इसके पश्चात् उपन्यासों ने कहानियों को अपना अंग ही बना लिया। लिखने को तो अब भी कहानी लिखने बैठ जाता हूँ, लिख भी लेता हूँ, किंतु मेरे लेखन के केंद्र में कहानी नहीं है। फिर भी कह सकता हूँ कि ‘परिणति’, ‘नमक का कैदी’, ‘संचित भूख’, ‘किरचे’, ‘निचले फ्लैट में’ और ‘नींद आने तक’ जैसी कहानियाँ न मुझसे भुलाई गई हैं और न पाठकों द्वारा उनकी उपेक्षा की स्थिति आई है। यदा-कदा उनकी चर्चा होती ही रहती है। वह मेरी किशोरावस्था थी। उसमें समाज के प्रति दायित्वबोध भी था और प्रेम का आकर्षण भी। उनमें मेरे भाई-बहन भी हैं और मेरी सखियाँ भी। वह जीवन का वह महत्त्वपूर्ण मोड़ था, जिसे भुलाना संभव नहीं है। परिणामतः आज आधी शताब्दी के पश्चात् भी वे कहानियाँ मुझे प्रिय हैं। —नरेंद्र कोहली

- Description: "लोकनायक जयप्रकाश नारायण का जन्म 11 अक्तूबर, 1902 को बिहार के सारण जिले के सिताबदियारा गाँव में हुआ। पढ़ाई में वे शुरू से ही कुशाग्र थे, इसलिए राजनीतिशात्र और समाजशात्र में बी.ए. एवं एम.ए. अमेरिका से किए। सन् 1929 में पं. नेहरू के आमंत्रण पर वे भारतीय राष्ट्रीय कांग्रेस में शामिल हुए। इस दौरान महात्मा गांधी उनके गुरु और पथ-प्रदर्शक बने। स्वतंत्रता और गांधीजी के निधन के बाद जयप्रकाश नारायण, आचार्य नरेंद्र देव और बसावन सिंह ने पहली विपक्षी सोशलिस्ट पार्टी का गठन किया। बाद में उसका नाम प्रजा सोशलिस्ट पार्टी कर दिया गया। जयप्रकाश नारायण का कहना था कि सिर्फ शासक बदलने से समस्या का हल नहीं होता, जब तक कि सारी व्यवस्था में आमूल परिवर्तन न हो। चंबल के चार सौ डाकुओं का समर्पण; बिहार में अराजक सत्ता व्यवस्था, कुशिक्षा, अपराध व अराजकता के खिलाफ ऐतिहासिक छात्र आंदोलन; व्यवस्था में बदलाव के लिए संपूर्ण क्रांति के आह्वान से लेकर केंद्र में इंदिरा गांधी की तत्कालीन सरकार को सत्ता से उखाड़कर लोकतंत्र की बहाली तक जयप्रकाश नारायण ने विविध सत्याग्रही भूमिकाओं का निर्वहण किया। लोकनायक जयप्रकाश नारायण ने इस देश में सामाजिक एवं आर्थिक परिवर्तन लाने के लिए एक संपूर्ण क्रांति का सपना देखा और देश के सम्मुख उसे प्रस्तुत किया। प्रस्तुत है स्वतंत्रता-प्राप्ति के बाद के क्रांतिकारी विचारक, दूरद्रष्टा और समाज में चेतना जगानेवाले लोकनायक की पठनीय एवं प्रेरणादायी जीवनी।
