Anuj was born on August 28, 1975 in Delhi. He was a resident of Janakpuri in South West Delhi. Captain Vikram Batra showed unprecedented valour in the Kargil war and attained martyrdom. He was awarded with the ‘Param Vir Chakra’ posthumously.

Sanjay Kumar was born on March 3, 1976 in Kalol Bakain of District Bilaspur in Himachal Pradesh. There was a point of time when Sanjay was out of ammunitions, but this never stopped him. He could see his end right in front of his eyes, yet he acted with determination and courage and thus defeating death, he successfully completed the mission assigned to him.

Yogendra Singh Yadav was born on May 10, 1980 in the Ahir village of Aurangabad in Bulandshahr district of Uttar Pradesh. Grenadier Yogendra Singh Yadav not only defeated the enemy but also dodged death in this war. At the time of receiving the ParamVir Chakra award he was only 19 years of age. He is the youngest soldier to have received the ParamVir Chakra.

छायावाद की यशस्वी रचनाकार महादेवी वर्मा का लेखन किसी न किसी रूप में पाठकों व आलोचकों को आन्दोलित करता आया है। कभी उनकी रचनाओं में उनके जीवन के बिखरे सूत्र रेखांकित किए जाते हैं तो कभी उनके जीवन में रचनाओं के स्रोत खोजे जाते हैं। महादेवी द्वारा लिखित प्रत्येक शब्द स्वयं को ध्यान से पढ़े जाने का आग्रह करता है। ‘सात भूमिकाएँ’ में ‘रश्मि’, ‘सांध्यगीत’, ‘आधुनिक कवि’, ‘दीपशिखा’, ‘बंग–दर्शन’, ‘सप्तपर्णा’ एवं ‘हिमालय’ कविता–संग्रहों की भूमिकाएँ हैं। महादेवी वर्मा लिखित इन भूमिकाओं का ऐतिहासिक महत्त्व है। ये भूमिकाएँ उनकी तत्कालीन मन:स्थिति को प्रकट करने के साथ उनके समग्र लेखन पर एक ‘अन्त:साक्ष्य’ की भाँति हैं। ‘सात भूमिकाओं’ के सम्पादक दूधनाथ सिंह का सम्पादकीय ‘छायावाद : व्यथा का सवेरा’ अत्यन्त विचारोत्तेजक है। अपनी विशिष्ट ‘तर्कसंगत पद्धति’ से दूधनाथ सिंह ने महादेवी के रचनाकर्म को विवेचित किया है—‘उनके वाक्य स्पष्ट, पारदर्शी व निर्भ्रान्त हैं, ‘महादेवी की आलोचनाएँ शब्द–अलंकृति अधिक हैं, आलोचनाएँ कम। उनका सारा वैचारिक गद्य–लेखन लगभग ऐसा ही है। उनमें तर्क और विश्लेषण का अभाव है। अपनी हर अगली बात के लिए महादेवी तर्क की जगह कोई प्रतीक–बिम्ब ढूँढ़ने लगती हैं।’

दूधनाथ सिंह के सम्पादकीय के प्रकाश में महादेवी की इन सात भूमिकाओं को पढ़ना एक आलोचनात्मक अनुभव है। तब और भी जब महादेवी के चुटीले ‘सुरक्षात्मक वाक्य’ उनकी प्रत्येक भूमिका में हैं। ‘रश्मि’ संग्रह की ‘अपनी बात’ का पहला ही वाक्य, ‘अपने विषय में कुछ कहना प्राय: बहुत कठिन हो जाता है, क्योंकि अपने दोष देखना अपने आपको अप्रिय लगता है और इनको अनदेखा कर जाना औरों को...।’ एक संग्रहणीय पुस्तक।

काव्य-भाषा सम्बन्धी चिन्तन समकालीन आलोचना के केन्द्र में आ गया है। हिन्दी में, इस विषय पर मौलिक दृष्टि से लिखी गई पुस्तकें बहुत कम हैं। प्रख्यात आलोचक डॉ. रामस्वरूप चतुर्वेदी के आलोचनात्मक चिन्तन का प्रमुख प्रतिमान काव्य-भाषा रही है। इस पुस्तक में उन्हीं के लिखे हुए तीन निबन्ध संकलित हैं जिनकी हिन्दी आलोचना में प्रशंसा होती रही है।

इस विषय पर इन निबन्धों का ऐतिहासिक और वैचारिक महत्त्व है।

‘मीरा और मीरा’ छायावाद की मूर्तिमान गरिमा महीयसी महादेवी वर्मा के चार व्याख्यानों का संग्रह है। महादेवी जी ने ये व्याख्यान जयपुर में हिन्दी साहित्य सम्मेलन की राजस्थान शाखा के निमंत्रण पर दिए थे।
इन चार व्याख्यानों के शीर्षक हैं–मीरा का युग, मीरा की साधना, मीरा के गीत और मीरा का विद्रोह। इनमें महादेवी ने मध्यकालीन स्त्री की स्थिति का विशेष सन्दर्भ लेकर भक्ति, मुक्ति, आत्मनिर्णय, विद्रोह और निजपथ-निर्माण आदि को विश्लेषित किया है।
‘मीरा और मीरा’ को प्रकाशित करते हुए हमें इसलिए भी विशेष प्रसन्नता है कि यह समय अस्मिता-विमर्श का है। स्त्री-विमर्श के ‘समय विशेष’ में स्त्री-अस्मिता के दो शिखर व्यक्तित्वों का ‘रचनात्मक संवाद’ महत्त्वपूर्ण है। इन दो दीपशिखाओं के आलोक में परम्परा और आधुनिकता के जाने कितने निहितार्थ स्पष्ट होते हैं। ‘शृंखला की कड़ियाँ’ की लेखिका ने ‘सूली ऊपर सेज पिया की’ का गायन करने वाली रचनाकार के मन में प्रवेश किया है। यह दो समयों (मध्यकाल और आधुनिक युग) का संवाद भी है।
यह सोने पर सुहागा ही कहा जाएगा कि प्रस्तुत पुस्तक की भूमिका सुप्रसिद्ध कवि, कथाकार व विमर्शकार अनामिका ने लिखी है। कहना न होगा कि यह लम्बी भूमिका एक मुकम्मल आलोचनात्मक आलेख है।

इतिहास ग्रन्‍थों के अतिरिक्त हिन्दी साहित्य के विभिन्न कालखंडों, काल-रूपों और धाराओं पर अनेक शोध-प्रबन्‍ध एवं समीक्षात्मक ग्रन्‍थ प्रकाश में आए हैं। इनमें साहित्य के अनेक अज्ञात तथ्यों और अनिर्णीत प्रश्नों को नवीन दृष्टिकोण से नवालोक में प्रस्तुत किया गया है, किन्तु हिन्दी अनुसन्‍धान-जगत के इन नवीन निष्कर्षों और परिणामों का अतीव सतर्कतापूर्वक समन्वय एवं समाहितीकरण इतिहास-लेखन की दिशा में अभी शेष है। अतः नवीन शोध-परिणामों और विकसित साहित्य-चेतना के आलोक में हिन्‍दी साहित्य के इतिहास का पुनर्गठन और लेखन आवश्यक है। निस्सन्‍देह आज हिन्दी साहित्य के इतिहास में सम्‍बन्धित शताब्दिक पुस्तकें उपलब्ध हैं, किन्तु अभी तक इस दिशा में उचित व सन्तोषजनक प्रगति नहीं हुई है। हमने उस अभाव को दृष्टि में रखकर इस ग्रन्‍थ का प्रणयन किया है।
