- Description: ग़ुलामी के दौरान पंजाब पर अकल्पनीय अत्याचार के प्रतिवाद में रचित तथा ब्रिटिश शासन द्वारा प्रतिबन्धित और ज़ब्त रचनाएँ ‘जलियाँवाला बाग़ की कराहें’ पुस्तक जलियाँवाला बाग़ के नरसंहार की अतिशय वेदना और अंग्रेज़ी जुल्मों की व्यथा-कथा है जिसे हिन्दुस्तानियों ने अपनी आत्मा पर झेला, अपनी आँखों से देखा और साहित्यकारों ने अपनी क़लम से उकेरा। यह जनता का, जनता के द्वारा और जनता के लिए लिखा गया साहित्य है जो एक सदी तक अन्वेषकों की नज़रों से लगभग छिपा रहा। इन रचनाकारों ने अंग्रेज़ी राज की प्रताड़नाएँ सहते हुए औपनिवेशिक काल की त्रासद स्थितियों को कलमबद्ध किया। रचनाएँ मौखिक यात्रा करती हुईं जन-चेतना के उद्देश्य तक पहुँचती रहीं। पुस्तक में कुल नौ अध्याय हैं जिनमें जलियाँवाला बाग़ हत्याकांड के बाद रचित वे नाटक, कविताएँ, दोहे, ठुमरी, लावणी, क़व्वाली, ग़ज़ल आदि सम्मिलित हैं जो अलग-अलग पुस्तिकाओं में प्रकाशित हुईं। लगभग सभी विधाओं में रचित यह साहित्य जलियाँवाला बाग़ की पृष्ठभूमि से लेकर हर छोटी-बड़ी घटना, अंग्रेज़ों की क्रूरता, जुल्म और यातनाओं, लोगों की बेबसी, लाचारी, सामाजिक दशा-दुर्दशा का निर्भीक और वास्तविक विवरण प्रस्तुत करता है तो दूसरी तरफ़ साहस से उठ खड़े होने का आह्वान भी करता है। इनमें नृशंस हत्याओं के साथ-साथ हरे-भरे पेड़-पौधों की उखड़ी-जली छालों, घास चरती हुईं गाय-भैंसों का चरते-चरते मारे जाना, तोते, कोयल और मैना आदि पक्षियों तक का भी गोलियों से डरकर मरने का मार्मिक चित्रण है। इन रचनाओं की सत्यता पर कोई सन्देह इसलिए नहीं किया जा सकता कि आधिकारिक ऐतिहासिक दस्तावेज़ों में भी किसी न किसी रूप में इनका ज़िक्र है और इतिहास की पुस्तकों में भी इन्हें प्राय: उसी रूप में अभिव्यक्त किया गया है।

Many important books were published under his supervision. Maharaj Rameshwar Singh established many factories for economic development and played an important role in the establishment of Kashi Hindu University. He was made a Knight Commander of the Order of the Indian Empire (KCIE) and was promoted to a Knight Grand Commander (GCIE) and a Knight Commander of the Order of the British Empire, Civil Division (KBE).

- Description: ख़तरे की चेतावनी के बिना ऊपर आकाश से पैराशूट के खुलने के साथ गिर रहे परमाणु बम को कुछ लोग मुँह बाए देख रहे थे। उन्होंने सोचा कि शायद जहाज़ अमेरिकी युद्धबन्दियों के लिए खाद्य-सामग्री गिरा रहे हैं। ये पंक्तियां उस पल के बारे में हैं जब अमेरिका का बोक्सकार नामक जहाज नागासाकी के ऊपर परमाणु बम गिरा रहा था। इस उपन्यास की लेखिका उस समय स्कूल में पढ़ती थीं और उस दिन सैकड़ों छात्रों और मजदूरों के साथ उस स्थान से कुछ ही दूरी पर श्रमदान में लगी हुई थीं। परमाणु-विस्फोट की भुक्तभोगी लेखिका के इस आत्मकथात्मक उपन्यास में नागासाकी पर गिराए गए परमाणु बम के फौरी तथा बाद के समय में सामने आए प्रभावों-अनुभवों का यथार्थ विवरण प्रस्तुत किया गया है। जहाँ आवश्यक था वहाँ उन्होंने सर्वेक्षण-रपटों और अन्य दस्तावेजों का प्रयोग भी इसमें किया है। मुख्यतः नौ अगस्त, 1945 की सुबह से लेकर उसके बाद की लगभग दो महीनों की अवधि के दौरान जापान के नागासाकी शहर और उसके आसपास के क्षेत्रों में हुए घटनाक्रम का यह वास्तविक लेखा-जोखा युद्ध के विरुद्ध एक चेतावनी है जो आज के समय, जब युद्ध के लिए एक अजीब सी व्याकुलता विश्व में देखी जा रही है, खास तौर पर प्रासंगिक है। इस उपन्यास को पढ़ना एक पीड़ादायी अनुभव है लेकिन इससे गुजरना भी जरूरी है।

- Description: विमल मित्र का यह प्रयोगधर्मी उपन्यास ‘मैं’ हमारे समय के राजनीतिक एवं सामाजिक यथार्थ को परत-दर-परत सामने लाता है। स्वतंत्रता-पूर्व और पश्चात् की स्थितियों के जो चित्र इस कृति में मौजूद हैं, वे अपने आपमें ऐतिहासिक तथ्य हैं। इसमें एक तरफ़ दिगम्बर व नुटु का जीवन-संघर्ष है तो दूसरी ओर ज्योतिर्मय सेन का अन्तर्द्वन्द्व। यह अन्तर्द्वन्द्व साधारण जन का अन्तर्द्वन्द्व भी है जो सही व ग़लत के बीच अक्सर अनिर्णय का शिकार होकर यथास्थितिवादी बना रहता है। दो पुरुष और एक इतर प्राणी को केन्द्र मानकर चलती इसकी कथा अपने परिवेश से असंपृक्त नहीं रहती। इसमें एक ओर मानवीय प्रेम, अस्मिता तथा स्वतंत्रता का संघर्ष है तो दूसरी ओर व्यवस्था का निरंकुश अमानवीय चरित्र उद्घाटित होता है। कुल मिलाकर तीन प्राणियों को केन्द्र मानकर चलने के बावजूद यह कृति आत्मकथात्मक न होकर बीसवीं शताब्दी के भारत की महागाथा है। विविध आयामी यथार्थ चरित्रों के माध्यम से विमल मित्र एक ऐसा संसार रचते हैं, जिसमें प्रेम और वितृष्णा एक साथ उत्पन्न होते हैं।
