‘मांडवी’ रामकथा की स्त्री-चरित्रों को लेकर संवेदनशील रही आशा प्रभात की लेखनी का नया पड़ाव है। इससे पहले वह ‘मैं जनकनन्दिनी’ और ‘उर्मिला’ लिख चुकी हैं।
‘मांडवी’ भरत की पत्नी थीं जिनके विषय में न तो रामकथा में बहुत विस्तार से कुछ आता है, न ही बाद के विद्वानों-साहित्यकारों ने उन पर कुछ ख़ास ध्यान दिया, जबकि राम-वनवास के दौरान उन्होंने सम्भवतः लक्ष्मण की पत्नी उर्मिला से भी ज़्यादा पीड़ा का वहन किया होगा।
आशा प्रभात एक सजग लेखिका के रूप में यह ठीक ही प्रश्न उठाती हैं कि रामायण के पुरुष-पात्र जहाँ इतने पराक्रमी, प्रज्ञावान और गुणवान थे, तो फिर स्त्री-पात्र क्या इतने संवेदनहीन और प्रज्ञाशून्य थे कि उनकी मनस्थिति का विस्तृत चित्रण करना कवियों की अनिवार्य नहीं लगा।
इसी से प्रेरित होकर उन्होंने सीता और उर्मिला के बाद अब मांडवी को अपना विषय बनाया जो दुर्भाग्य से उस कैकेयी की बहू भी थी जिसके चलते राम को वनवास हुआ और उनसे जुड़े तमाम पात्रों, ख़ासकर स्त्रियों को इतना कुछ झेलना पड़ा।
यह उपन्यास एक पौराणिक चरित्र की भावभूमि का अन्वेषण करते हुए स्त्री-मात्र की व्यथा को समझने का प्रयत्न करता है, और रामकथा के महत्त्वपूर्ण लेकिन उपेक्षित चरित्र को, उसके पूरे व्यक्तित्व के साथ रेखांकित करता है।

- Description: ग़ुलामी के दौरान पंजाब पर अकल्पनीय अत्याचार के प्रतिवाद में रचित तथा ब्रिटिश शासन द्वारा प्रतिबन्धित और ज़ब्त रचनाएँ ‘जलियाँवाला बाग़ की कराहें’ पुस्तक जलियाँवाला बाग़ के नरसंहार की अतिशय वेदना और अंग्रेज़ी जुल्मों की व्यथा-कथा है जिसे हिन्दुस्तानियों ने अपनी आत्मा पर झेला, अपनी आँखों से देखा और साहित्यकारों ने अपनी क़लम से उकेरा। यह जनता का, जनता के द्वारा और जनता के लिए लिखा गया साहित्य है जो एक सदी तक अन्वेषकों की नज़रों से लगभग छिपा रहा। इन रचनाकारों ने अंग्रेज़ी राज की प्रताड़नाएँ सहते हुए औपनिवेशिक काल की त्रासद स्थितियों को कलमबद्ध किया। रचनाएँ मौखिक यात्रा करती हुईं जन-चेतना के उद्देश्य तक पहुँचती रहीं। पुस्तक में कुल नौ अध्याय हैं जिनमें जलियाँवाला बाग़ हत्याकांड के बाद रचित वे नाटक, कविताएँ, दोहे, ठुमरी, लावणी, क़व्वाली, ग़ज़ल आदि सम्मिलित हैं जो अलग-अलग पुस्तिकाओं में प्रकाशित हुईं। लगभग सभी विधाओं में रचित यह साहित्य जलियाँवाला बाग़ की पृष्ठभूमि से लेकर हर छोटी-बड़ी घटना, अंग्रेज़ों की क्रूरता, जुल्म और यातनाओं, लोगों की बेबसी, लाचारी, सामाजिक दशा-दुर्दशा का निर्भीक और वास्तविक विवरण प्रस्तुत करता है तो दूसरी तरफ़ साहस से उठ खड़े होने का आह्वान भी करता है। इनमें नृशंस हत्याओं के साथ-साथ हरे-भरे पेड़-पौधों की उखड़ी-जली छालों, घास चरती हुईं गाय-भैंसों का चरते-चरते मारे जाना, तोते, कोयल और मैना आदि पक्षियों तक का भी गोलियों से डरकर मरने का मार्मिक चित्रण है। इन रचनाओं की सत्यता पर कोई सन्देह इसलिए नहीं किया जा सकता कि आधिकारिक ऐतिहासिक दस्तावेज़ों में भी किसी न किसी रूप में इनका ज़िक्र है और इतिहास की पुस्तकों में भी इन्हें प्राय: उसी रूप में अभिव्यक्त किया गया है।

- Description: यह पुस्तक ‘भगत सिंह को फांसी-1’ का ही दूसरा भाग है। इसमें लाहौर साज़िश केस के दौरान हुई 457 गवाहियों में से महत्त्वपूर्ण गवाहियों के तो पूर्ण विवरण दिए गए हैं, जबकि शेष गवाहियों के तथ्य-सार दिए गए हैं। शहीद सुखदेव ने इस दस्तावेज़ का बारीकी से अध्ययन किया था और उनके द्वारा अंकित की गई टिप्पणियों का उल्लेख सम्बन्धित गवाहियों के ब्योरे में किया गया है। यहाँ यह कहना भी प्रासंगिक है कि इस ऐतिहासिक दस्तावेज़ को पहली बार प्रकाशित किया जा रहा है, जिसके द्वारा पाठकों को अनेक विचित्र तथ्य जानने का अवसर प्राप्त होगा। ज़िक्र योग्य है कि ये गवाहियाँ विशेष ट्रिब्यूनल के समक्ष 5 मई, 1930 से 26 अगस्त, 1930 तक हुई थीं जबकि इससे पूर्व 10 जुलाई, 1929 से 3 मई, 1930 तक मुक़दमा विशेष मजिस्ट्रेट की अदालत में चला था।

- Description: देबकू-जिंदू की यह प्रेम कहानी आज से महज सौ साल पहले की है। जैसा कि उपन्यासकार मुरारी शर्मा ने उपन्यास की पृष्ठभूमि स्पष्ट करते हुए लिखा है कि यह अनूठी प्रेम कहानी प्रथम विश्वयुद्ध के आस-पास की कहानी है। मण्डी रियासत के मुख्यालय से महज बीस-बाईस किलोमीटर की दूरी पर स्थित नगरोटा गाँव से शुरू हुई यह प्रेम गाथा मण्डी नगर में सिमट कर रह गई। इस उपन्यास की विशेषता यह है कि इस प्रेमगाथा में वर्णित स्थानों व भवनों के अवशेषों से लेखक रूबरू हुआ है। बहुत से ऐसे व्यक्तियों से सम्पर्क साधने में सफल रहा है जो देबकू-जिंदू की इस प्रेम कहानी के तथ्यों की प्रामाणिकता को तस्दीक करते हैं। मुरारी शर्मा एक स्थापित वरिष्ठ कथाकार हैं, कहानी बुनने की कला में सिद्धहस्त। इन्होंने उपन्यास की पाठकीय रोचकता में कोई कमी नहीं आने दी है। सहज और सरल पात्रानुकूल भाषा-शैली उपन्यास की जीवंतता को बढ़ाने में कोई कसर नहीं छोड़ती। निश्चय ही लोक में प्रचलित एक अनूठी प्रेमकथा पर आधारित यह उपन्यास हिंदी साहित्य के लिए एक बड़ी उपलब्धि है। —विजय विशाल

- Description: भगत सिंह को फाँसी-1 यह कैसे हुआ कि मामूली हथियारों से लैस कुछ नौजवानों को ब्रिटिश साम्राज्य के खिलाफ युद्ध छेड़ने का दोषी पाया गया, जिसके चलते उन्हें उम्रकैद और फाँसी की सजा हुई! ‘युद्ध’, जो उन्होंने लड़ा हालाँकि ‘‘यह युद्ध उपनिवेशवादियों व पूँजीपतियों के विरुद्ध लड़ा गया।’’ और जो ‘‘ न ही यह हमारे साथ शुरू हुआ और न ही यह हमारे जीवन के साथ खत्म होगा।’’ और, मात्र 30 महीने की उल्लेखनीय अवधि में 8-9 सितम्बर 1928 को ‘हिन्दुस्तान सोशलिस्ट रिपब्लिक एसोसिएशन’ की स्थापना के साथ शुरू होकर, यह सम्पन्न हो गया। विश्वास से भरपूर भगत सिंह के शब्द थे, कि ‘‘मैं अपने देश के करोड़ों लोगों की ‘इंकलाब जिंदाबाद’ की हुंकार सुन पा रहा हूँ। काल-कोठरी की मोटी दीवारो के पीछे बैठे हुए भी मुझे कहै कि यह नारा हमारे स्वतंत्राता संघर्ष को प्रेरणा देता रहेगा।’’ इस पुस्तक में प्रस्तुत है इसका प्रथमद्रष्टया विवरण।
