'ಮಾರವಾ', 'ದರ್ಪಣ' ದಂತಹ ಕಥಾ- ಸಂಗ್ರಹಗಳು, 'ಭೂಮಿ', 'ಸೇತು', 'ಮುದ್ರಾ' ದಂತಹ ಕಾದಂಬರಿಗಳನ್ನು ರಚಿಸಿ ಮರಾಠಿಯ ಸಹೃದಯ ಓದುಗರ ಗಮನವನ್ನು ಸೆಳೆದಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಮನದೊಳಗೆ ಮೂಡಿದ ವಿಚಾರವನ್ನು ಖಚಿತವಾಗಿ ಮಾಡಿ ತೋರಿಸುವ, ಯಾರ ಎದುರಿಗೂ ಕೈ ಒಡ್ಡದೆ, ಯಾರಿಗೂ ತಲೆಬಾಗದೆ, ಮಣಿಯದೆ ಛಲದಿಂದ ತನ್ನ ಹಾದಿಯನ್ನು ತಾನೇ ರೂಪಿಸಿಕೊಂಡ, ಭೂಮಿಯ ಧಾರಣಶಕ್ತಿಯನ್ನೂ ಸಹನೆಯ ಗುಣವನ್ನೂ ಪಡೆದ ಮೈಥಿಲಿಯು ತನ್ನ ಸ್ವಂತ ಆಸ್ಮಿತೆ ಗಾಗಿ, ಅಸ್ತಿತ್ವಕ್ಕಾಗಿ ನಡೆಸಿದ ಹೋರಾಟ ಅನನ್ಯ ಮತ್ತು ಅವಿಸ್ಮರಣೀಯ. ಇದೇ ಈ 'ಭೂಮಿ' ಕಾದಂಬರಿಯ ವಿಶೇಷತೆ. ಚಂದ್ರಕಾಂತ ಪೋಕಳೆಯವರು ಕನ್ನಡದ ಪ್ರಸಿದ್ಧ ಭಾಷಾಂತರಕಾರರಲ್ಲಿ ಒಬ್ಬರು. ಕನ್ನಡ ಮರಾಠಿಯ ಸೇತುವೆಯಾಗಿ 30 ವರ್ಷಗಳಿಂದ ಕಾರ್ಯನಿರ್ವಹಿಸುತ್ತಿರುವ ಅವರು ಈವರೆಗೆ ತೊಂಬತ್ತು ಮರಾಠಿ ಕೃತಿಗಳನ್ನು ಕನ್ನಡಕ್ಕೆ ತರ್ಜುಮೆ ಮಾಡಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಅವರು ಎರಡು ಬಾರಿ ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ ಸಾಹಿತ್ಯ ಅಕಾಡೆಮಿಯ ಪ್ರಶಸ್ತಿ, ಕುವೆಂಪು ಭಾಷಾ ಭಾರತಿ ಗೌರವ ಪ್ರಶಸ್ತಿ ಮತ್ತು ಕೇಂದ್ರ ಸಾಹಿತ್ಯ ಅಕಾದೆಮಿಯ ಅನುವಾದ ಪ್ರಶಸ್ತಿಗೆ ಭಾಜನರಾಗಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಪ್ರಸ್ತುತ 'ಭೂಮಿ' ಕಾದಂಬರಿಯನ್ನು ಕನ್ನಡದ್ದೇ ಕೃತಿ ಎಂಬಂತೆ ಅನುವಾದಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ.

ಮೂಲತಃ ತೆಲುಗಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಬರೆದ ದ್ರೌಪದಿ ಪುಸ್ತಕವಾಗಿ ಪ್ರಕಟವಾಗುವ ಮೊದಲು ಆಂಧ್ರ ಜ್ಯೋತಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಧಾರಾವಾಹಿಯಾಗಿ ಪ್ರಕಟವಾಯಿತು. ವಿಶಿಷ್ಟ ಶೈಲಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರಸ್ತುತಪಡಿಸಲಾದ ಈ ಕಾದಂಬರಿಯು ದ್ರೌಪದಿಯನ್ನು ಒಳಗೊಂಡ ವಿವಿಧ ಘಟನೆಗಳ ವಿವರಣೆಯಲ್ಲ, ಆದರೆ ಈ ಘಟನೆಗಳನ್ನು ಒಂದು ಆಕರ್ಷಕ ಕಥೆಯಾಗಿ ಹೆಣೆಯಲಾಗಿದೆ. ಲಕ್ಷ್ಮೀಪ್ರಸಾದ್ ಬಳಸಿದ ನಿರೂಪಣಾ ಶೈಲಿ ಮತ್ತು ವಿವರಣೆಯ ರಚನಾತ್ಮಕ ವಿಧಾನವು ಓದುಗರನ್ನು ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣವಾಗಿ ತೊಡಗಿಸುತ್ತದೆ.
