श्रीकान्त वर्मा मुक्तिबोध की पीढ़ी के बाद के कवियों में अन्यतम बेचैन और उत्तप्त कवि इस माने में ज़्यादा हैं कि उन्होंने अपनी कविता के ज़रिए न केवल अपने समय का सीधा, तीक्ष्ण और अन्दर तक तिलमिला देनेवाला भयावह साक्षात्कार किया, बल्कि हर अमानवीय ताक़त के विरुद्ध एक निर्मम और नंगी भिड़ंत की। इसीलिए उनकी कविता में नाराज़गी, असहमति और विरोध का स्वर सबसे मुखर है। उनकी कविता उस दर्पण की तरह है, जहाँ कोई झूठ छिप नहीं सकता। उनकी कविता हर झूठ के विरुद्ध कहीं प्रतिशोध है तो कहीं सार्थक वक्तव्य। शायद इसीलिए वे सन् 60 के बाद की कविता के हिन्दी के पहले नाराज़ कवि के रूप में प्रतिष्ठित हुए। वे एक ओर मानवीय संवेदना के गहन ऐन्द्रिक प्रेम और क्षोभ के विरल कवि हैं तो दूसरी तरफ़ सामाजिक कर्म की कविता में नैतिक क्षोभ से उपजे सामाजिक हस्तक्षेप के दुर्लभ कवि हैं। वे उत्तर खोजने के बजाय प्रश्न खड़े करनेवाले कवि हैं। ‘भटका’ मेघ से शुरू हुई श्रीकान्त वर्मा की काव्य–यात्रा ‘माया दर्पण’, ‘दिनारंभ’ और ‘जलसाघर’ से गुज़रते हुए एक ऐसी कवि की दुनिया है जहाँ बीसवीं शताब्दी के मनुष्य की अपने समय से सीधी बहस है। कवि दूसरे से उलझने के बजाय स्वयं से प्रश्न करता है जहाँ उसके आत्माभियोग और आत्म–स्वीकार का स्वर सबसे मूल्यवान है। ‘मगध’ और ‘गरुड़ किसने देखा है’ एक ऐसे कवि की अथाह करुणा की पुकार है जो युग–संधि पर खड़ा अपने समय के मनुष्य, समाज, राजनीति, इतिहास और काल को बहुत निर्मम होकर बेचैनी के साथ देखते हुए मनुष्य और समाज की नियति को परिभाषित कर रहा है। इसीलिए ‘मगध’ समकालीन व्यवस्था का मर्सिया भर नहीं है बल्कि समय, समाज और व्यवस्था के विरुद्ध एक सीधा हस्तक्षेप है। इस खंड में पहली बार श्रीकान्त वर्मा की सम्पूर्ण प्रकाशित–अप्रकाशित, संकलित–असंकलित कविताओं का संचयन किया गया है जिसमें दर्ज है—एक कवि का सम्पूर्ण संसार जो अनेक संसारों में फैला हुआ है। इसके अतिरिक्त इस खंड में पुस्तकों की भूमिकाएँ, सम्पादकीय और अपने समकालीनों के साथ दो महत्त्वपूर्ण संवाद भी मौजूद हैं।

रवीन्द्र भारती की कविताएँ साधारण लोगों और चीज़ों की साधारणता को इस तरह आलोकित करती हैं कि वे उत्सवधर्मी और बड़बोली असाधारणताओं के सम्मुख न सिर्फ़ उनका विकल्प बल्कि उनसे ज़्यादा गरिमापूर्ण और अर्थवान लगने लगती हैं। बहुत नज़दीक और बहुत जाने-पहचाने हमारे संसार में ही उनकी कविता ऐसे बिन्दुओं को चिह्नित करती चलती है जहाँ हम एक मनुष्य के रूप में सहजभाव से रह सकते हैं। सरल और आमफ़हम शब्दावली में अनुभूति के सघन क्षणों को कविता में ले आना रवीन्द्र भारती की विशेषता है, जिसे अपने देशज बोध के साथ वे एक अविस्मरणीय दृश्य के रूप में पाठक के सामने कर देते हैं। आज के काव्य-जगत में उनकी कविताओं को पढ़ना कविता की एक अत्यन्त प्राकृतिक भूमि से साक्षात्कार करना है, वह भूमि जहाँ कुछ भी ऐसा नहीं जो कविता न हो सके।

‘वाया नई सदी’ दस्तावेज़ है समय की असहजताओं और अस्वाभाविकताओं का जिन्हें हमने जीवन की स्वाभाविक मुद्राओं की तरह स्वीकार कर लिया है। ये कविताएँ इस स्वीकृति के विरुद्ध उठी मुट्ठियों की तरह हैं। यह समय जहाँ बोलने, चीखने और विरोध करने पर लगातार कठोर होती पाबन्दियाँ हमारी चुप्पियों पर हँसने लगी हैं, और हम प्यार को, जनतन्त्र को, मानवीयता को धीरे-धीरे छीजते देख रहे हैं, और ख़ामोश हैं। ‘हमारे समय के करुण इतिहास पर/हिंसा की तरह दर्ज अभिलाषाओं में/महामौन की तरह खड़ी है एक गाय/जो अभी-अभी खूँटे पर आई है/लहूलुहान’—‘गाय’ शीर्षक कविता की ये पंक्तियाँ भारत की नयी सदी की उस महाविडम्बना की ओर संकेत करती है जहाँ करुणा में रसे-बसे सांस्कृतिक प्रतीकों को हिंसक बिम्बों में बदलने की कोशिश बाक़ायदा सत्ता के इशारों पर हो रही है और समाज, जैसे कि उसे इसी का इंतज़ार था, इस प्रक्रिया को पूरा करने में जुटा हुआ है : ‘उनमें ग़ज़ब की सामूहिक सहमति है’, और ‘एक सीधी सरल गाय/हिंसक पशु में बदल जाती है।’ श्रीप्रकाश शुक्ल भारतीयता के इस क्षरण के प्रति अपनी असहमति, अपना प्रतिरोध दर्ज कराना चाहते हैं। वे चाहते हैं कि हम बोलें, 'चुप्पी के काइएँपन से दूसरे की हत्या करने से बेहतर है/बोल-बोलकर ख़ुद के भीतर जमी काइयों का वध करना।’ वे कहते हैं कि ‘बोलता आदमी जब चुप हो जाए/तो समझिए कि इस व्यवस्था में एक तानाशाह का जन्म हो चुका है/जो हमारे मुँह से प्रवेश करता है और जीभ को चीरता हुआ/अंतड़ियों में उतर जाता है।’ इसीलिए वे एक मुखर आदमी के पक्ष में अपना बयान देते हैं, ‘मनुष्यों के मुद्दे राजनीति से बड़े होते हैं/और अर्थनीति से ज़्यादा उलझे हुए/...कि लोकतंत्र के मुद्दे भुजा से नहीं/भाषा से तय होते हैं।’ श्रीप्रकाश शुक्ल के इस नए संग्रह में कई कविताएँ ऐसी हैं जो इस विचित्र सदी को सीधे-सीधे सम्बोधित हैं और कई ऐसी जो समय के शोर में बिला रही मनुष्यता की सरस, सहज, सकारात्मक भंगिमाओं को आवाज़ देती हैं। उनके ‘नहीं होने’ को रेखांकित करती हैं ताकि हम उन्हें लौटा लाएँ। कोरोना काल के भीषण विद्रूप भी इन कविताओं में अंकित हुए हैं, और प्रकृति के साहचर्य से पल्लवित संवेदनाएँ भी। लेकिन ‘वाया’ की ओट से समय की लय को भंग करनेवाली ताक़तों को लेकर चेतावनी कहीं धूमिल नहीं पड़ती : ‘बादल होंगे लेकिन नमी नहीं होगी/...रक्षक होंगे लेकिन रक्षार्थ कुछ नहीं होगा.../और तब वे अपने वर्तमान से मुक्त होकर/एक शानदार विरासत का जश्न मनाएँगे/...मानव-मुक्त विकास का जश्न!’

हूँ न मैं हूँ धीरे-से इतना बस / थकी हुई चिड़िया से कहता है / पानी में फूला हुआ दाना।अनुभूति के बहुस्तरीय सच को कविता में पूरा-पूरा कह सकने वाली, हमारे समय की समर्थ कवि अनामिका की प्रेम कविताओं का यह संग्रह ‘आपै आपन पार’ प्रेम का जैसे एक सम्पूर्ण पाठ है। ‘लरिकाई को प्रेम’ से चलकर ‘वार्धक्य में प्रेम की दस्तक’ और घनानंद से लेकर आज के तकनीक-समृद्ध समय तक फैला प्रेम का यह आख्यान प्रेम के अनेक पड़ावों से गुज़रता है और जीवन के इस आधारभूत तत्त्व को हिंसाओं और अतिक्रमणों की दलदल से निथारकर हमारे सामने मूर्त करता है, जिस दलदल और जिस शोर को हमने शायद प्रेम की चुनौती से भागने के लिए ही रचा है। प्रेम जो अगर बुलाता है, तो परीक्षा भी लेता है, कसौटी भी बनता है प्रेमी के समर्पण की, उसकी; सीमाओं को बताते हुए, कहते हुए कि और बड़े होकर आओ; और परिष्कृत, और ज्यादा मनुष्य। वह चाहता है कि मनुष्य विभाजनों से ऊपर उठे, समाज के भी और मन के भी। इन कविताओं में प्रेम की पीड़ा भी है, आकांक्षा भी है, लोक और साहित्य में रची-बसी प्रेम की छवियाँ भी हैं, परम्परा और आधुनिकता के बीच जो पुल प्रेम बनाता है, वह भी है। कहना अतिशयोक्ति न होगी कि ‘आपै आपन पार’ से गुज़रना प्रेम के एक समूचे अनुभव से गुज़रना है और उसके विमर्श से भी। कविताओं के साथ इस पुस्तक में प्रेम-कविता को लेकर एक ‘उपरान्त कथन’ भी है जो हिन्दी और विश्व-साहित्य में प्रेम की अभिव्यक्ति पर विहगावलोकन करते हुए प्रेम के सूक्ष्म का अन्वेषण समय और भूगोल के एक बड़े वृत्त में करता है|

यह एक गद्य कविता है पर इसमें सघन बिम्ब, शब्दों से खिलवाड़, कई अविवक्षित अर्थों के संकेत, अप्रत्याशित मोड़ आदि सब हैं जो गद्य के नहीं, कविता के गुण होते हैं। कविता का शीर्षक जो संकेत देता है, उन्हें कविता की काया में ऐन्द्रिय रूप से चरितार्थ होते महसूस किया जा सकता है। जिस ‘जगह’ से कविता शुरू होती है, कविता के अन्‍त तक आते-आते उसकी सच्‍चाई, आशय और परिणतियाँ अप्रत्याशित रूप से बहुल-उत्कट और अर्थगर्भी हो जाती हैं। साधारण जीवन की छवियाँ—जगह, चकवड़ के पौधे, जानवर, गर्मियों की शाम, बँधी पर सौ साँप, डंडे, प्यास, हिजड़े दोस्त—कविता का शिल्प रूपायित कर इस आत्मीय सच्‍चाई कि ‘जगह के बाहर मुलाक़ातें नहीं हो सकतीं’ और इस दार्शनिक सत्य तक पहुँचाती हैं कि जगह के बाहर ‘न दोस्त होते हैं, न लोग होते हैं, न होना होता है, न न होना होता है’। एक युवा कवि द्वारा एक अपेक्षाकृत अस्पष्ट विषय को इस कौशल और संयम से बरतना विरल है। —अशोक वाजपेयी
