कई बार जीवन में परेशानियाँ और असफलताएँ व्यक्ति को तनावग्रस्त कर देती हैं। तनाव, समस्याओं और परेशानियों का हल व्यक्ति बाहर ढूँढऩे का प्रयत्न करते हैं, जबकि वास्तविकता में उनका हल व्यक्ति के स्वयं के अंतर्मन में ही होता है। बस इसके लिए आवश्यकता होती है इस बात की कि व्यक्ति तनावग्रस्त क्षणों में स्वयं को एकाग्र करने का प्रयत्न करे। चिंता और परेशानियों को दूर कर केवल स्वयं के साथ बात करें, अपने अंतर्मन से बातें करें और याद करें उन व्यक्तियों को, जिन्होंने बहुत बड़ी समस्याओं का सामना निर्भयतापूर्वक और आत्मविश्वास के साथ किया तथा बड़ी-से-बड़ी मुसीबतों को पराजित कर अपने लक्ष्य को प्राप्त किया। जब हर ओर अंधकार नजर आए, तिमिर रोशनी को दूर करने का प्रयास करे, ऐसे में अपने अंतर्मन में यह दोहराते रहना चाहिए कि अंधकार कितना भी गहरा और काला क्यों न हो, किंतु जब रोशनी की एक किरण भी उस तक पहुँचती है तो तिमिर का घेरा टूट जाता है और प्रकाश की किरणें अपने उजाले से चहुँओर उजाला कर देती हैं। ऐसी ही अंतर्मन की अनुभूतियाँ कहानियों के साथ यहाँ प्रस्तुत हैं। अंतर्मन की ये बातें हर व्यक्ति के अंदर उपस्थित हैं, बस उनको जाग्रत करने की आवश्यकता है।

Chaso, short for Chaganti Somayajulu, was born in 1915 in Srikakulam and spent most of his life in Vizianagaram. He began his literary journey as a poet in English and later in Telugu. He was also an essayist and wrote one play. However, his true passion was the short story, which he considered a lyrical poem. His first short story, 'Chinnaaji,' published in 1942, was critically acclaimed, and by 1945 he was recognised as a leading figure and master of the genre. He set high standards for himself and, throughout a life dedicated to literature, published only about 50 stories. He was the first Telugu writer to incorporate Marxist ideas into short stories, though his stories are notably free of rhetoric. His narratives often portray the raw lives of the poor and the very poor, characterised by brevity, reticence, and compression. He was a founding member of the Progressive Writers Association. An atheist, Chaso willed his body for medical research, which his family honoured after his death in 1994.
