ये शब्द स्वामी विवेकानन्द के हैं जो अपने एक अन्य लेख में यह भी कहते हैं कि, “लोग भारत के पुनरुद्धार के विषय में जो जी में आए कहें, मैं अपने अनुभव के बल पर कह सकता हूँ कि जब तक तुम सच्चे अर्थों में धार्मिक नहीं होते, भारत का उद्धार होना असम्भव है।” स्वामी विवेकानन्द भारत के ऐसे चिन्तक थे जिनके विषय में गुरुदेव रवीन्द्रनाथ टैगोर ने रोम्यां रोलां को लिखा था कि अगर आप भारत को जानना चाहते हैं तो सबसे पहले विवेकानन्द का अध्ययन कीजिए।
धर्म और धार्मिक होने के सन्दर्भ में उन्हीं स्वामी विवेकानन्द के उपरोक्त दो कथन स्वयं घोषित करते हैं कि आज इक्कीसवीं सदी में वे हमारे लिए कितने उपयोगी और प्रासंगिक हैं। आज जब विचार को लेकर नहीं धर्मों के झंडों को लेकर दुनिया एक नए ध्रुवीकरण की दिशा में बढ़ रही है, हमें धार्मिक होने के सही मायने समझने की ज़रूरत है। सभी धर्म अलग-अलग समय और अलग-अलग जगहों पर उस स्थान और काल की समस्याओं से निजात पाने के प्रयासों के रूप में सामने आए, और अगर कालान्तर में चलकर वे व्यक्ति की इयत्ता का, उसकी पहचान का, उसके सामूहिक बोध और यहाँ तक कि राष्ट्रों तक का आधार बन गए तो इससे सिर्फ़ यह पता चलता है कि न तो कोई धर्म अपने आप में पूर्ण है और न ही व्यक्ति अभी इतना विकसित हुआ है कि वह धर्म के बिना अपना काम चला सके। कह सकते हैं कि हमें अभी सच्चे अर्थों में धार्मिक होना नहीं आया। धर्मों के सांसारिक-राजनीतिक दुरुपयोग की वजह भी यही है।
ऐसे समय स्वामी विवेकानन्द के लेखों, भाषणों, कक्षालापों के इस प्रतिनिधि संचयन का प्रकाशन विशेष महत्त्व रखता है। आशा है कि इसके अध्ययन से हमें धर्म, नैतिकता, भक्ति, ईश्वर और हिन्दुत्व के सच्चे अर्थों तक पहुँचने में मदद मिलेगी।

- Description: जिस समय भारत में भगवान् महावीर और भगवान् बुद्ध धर्म के संबंध में नए विचार रख रहे थे, उसी समय चीन के शानदोंग प्रदेश में भी कन्फ्यूशियस नामक समाज-सुधारक का जन्म हुआ। सरकारी नौकरी छोड़कर उन्होंने घर में ही एक विद्यालय खोलकर विद्यार्थियों को शिक्षा देना प्रारंभ किया। 55 वर्ष की आयु में वे लू राज्य में एक शहर के शासनकर्ता और बाद में मंत्री नियुक्त हुए। मंत्री होने के नाते उन्होंने दंड के बदले मनुष्य के चरित्र-सुधार पर बल दिया। कन्फ्यूशियस ने अपने शिष्यों को सत्य, प्रेम और न्याय का संदेश दिया। वे सदाचार पर अधिक बल देते तथा लोगों को विनयी, परोपकारी, गुणी और चरित्रवान् बनने की प्रेरणा देते थे। उनके मत को ‘कन्फ्यूशियसवाद’ या ‘कुंगफुल्सीवाद’ कहा जाता है। कन्फ्यूशियसवाद के अनुसार समाज का संगठन पाँच प्रकार के संबंधों पर आधारित है—1. शासक और शासित, 2. पिता और पुत्र, 3. ज्येष्ठ भ्राता और कनिष्ठ भ्राता, 4. पति और पत्नी तथा 5. इष्ट मित्र। कन्फ्यूशियसवाद की शिक्षा में धर्मनिरपेक्षता का सर्वांगपूर्ण उदाहरण मिलता है। उनका मूल सिद्धांत इस स्वर्णिम नियम पर आधारित है कि ‘दूसरों के प्रति वैसा ही व्यवहार करो, जैसा तुम उनके द्वारा अपने प्रति किए जाने की इच्छा रखते हो।’

शुक्ल जी के बौद्धिक निर्माण काल में तिलक का अमर ग्रन्थ ‘गीता-रहस्य’ हिन्दी में प्रकाशित हुआ जो भारत के सांस्कृतिक पुनर्जागरण और राष्ट्रीय जागरण का घोषणा-पत्र जैसा था। शुक्ल जी के बौद्धिक निर्माण में इस ग्रन्थ की भूमिका के पर्याप्त साक्ष्य उपलब्ध हैं। उनकी रचनाओं में आए क्षात्रधर्म, लोकधर्म, लोकसंग्रह, कर्मसौन्दर्य, साधनावस्था, सिद्धावस्था जैसे अनेक पारिभाषिक शब्दों के आधुनिक भारतीय चिन्तन में प्रचलन का श्रेय ‘गीता-रहस्य’ को ही है। अन्य बाह्य प्रभावों की तरह ‘गीता-रहस्य’ का प्रभाव भी उनकी चिन्तन-प्रक्रिया में घुल-मिलकर हो गया है जिसे पहचानने का कठिन कार्य इस लघु शोध-प्रबन्ध में किया गया है। लेकिन गीता-रहस्य के प्रभाव की पड़ताल करते समय भी लेखिका का ध्यान शुक्ल जी की मौलिकता पर केन्द्रित रहा है और यह इस प्रबन्ध की एक बड़ी विशेषता है।
