यशपाल की मान्यता थी कि भारतीय जनता की असली आज़ादी अंग्रेज़ी राज से मुक्ति तक सीमित नहीं है, असली आज़ादी सामन्ती मूल्यों, तत्त्वों और प्रवृत्तियों की समाप्ति तथा उभरते हुए पूँजीवाद के ख़ात्मे पर ही सम्भव है और इसके लिए उन्हें एक ऐसी विचारधारा की ज़रूरत महसूस होती थी जो इतिहास की संरचना को वैज्ञानिक ढंग से समझाने के साथ-साथ जनसाधारण को समग्र रूपान्तरण के लिए प्रेरित भी कर सके।
