- Description: अज्ञेय का लेखन इतना विपुल और वैविध्यपूर्ण है कि उसमें से उद्धरणों के एक चयन की बात सोचते ही पहला सवाल तो उसकी क्रम-प्रक्रिया को लेकर ही सामने आया। लगभग सभी साहित्यिक विधाओं में उत्कृष्ट लेखन के साथ-साथ अज्ञेय ने मानव-जीवन और समाज से जुड़ी सभी समस्याओं पर भी स्वतन्त्र रूप से सम्यक् विचार किया है। अज्ञेय के लिए न केवल साहित्य बल्कि पूरा मानव-जीवन ही मूल्यान्वेषण की प्रक्रिया है। इस क्रम से आरम्भ करने पर सहज ही केन्द्रीय मूल्य स्वतन्त्रता और उनसे जुड़े सवालों को अलगे चरण में रख पाना उचित लगा और साहित्य क्योंकि मूल्यान्वेषण की प्रक्रिया है, अत: भाषा, साहित्य आदि से जुड़े चिन्तन से चयन किये जाने वाले उद्धरणों का क्रम भी तय हो गया। इस चयन से गुज़रते हुए पाठक को यह महसूस हो सकता है कि अज्ञेय जब किसी दार्शनिक या तर्कशास्त्रीय गुत्थी पर भी विचार करते हैं तो उनका चिन्तन अधिकांशत: किसी अकादेमिक दार्शनिक की तरह का नहीं, बल्कि एक संवेदनात्मक दृष्टि, या कहें कि कवि-दृष्टि से किया गया चिन्तन होता है। अज्ञेय का चिन्तन कवि-दृष्टि का चिन्तन है, अकादेमिक नहीं। शायद, इसलिए इस कवि-दृष्टि के विमर्शात्मक चिन्तन और कविताओं के बीज-संवेदन का अहसास भी सुधी पाठकों को हो सकेगा। पाठक यदि चयन की इन मोटी रेखाओं के सहारे अज्ञेय के चिन्तन और कवि-कर्म की विपुलता, विविधता और सूक्ष्मता में प्रवेश करने की प्रेरणा पा सकें, तो यही इस चयन की सार्थकता होगी। अज्ञेय के कवि-कर्म और चिन्तन के द्वन्द्वों-समाधानों और प्रक्रियाओं-निष्कर्षों में ऐसा बहुत कुछ है जो किसी भी समय के लेखक-पाठक के लिए सदैव प्रासंगिक रहेगा। —प्रस्तावना से

- Description: ‘मृत्युंजयी ऊधम सिंह’ अपने ढंग के अनूठे रचनाकार जियालाल आर्य का उपन्यास है, जिसे शहीद ऊधम सिंह का ज़िन्दगीनामा कहा जा सकता है। ऊधम सिंह के बचपन से लेकर उनकी शहादत तक की कहानी यहाँ क़िस्सागोई शैली में बयान की गई है। शहीद ऊधम सिंह का जन्म 26 दिसम्बर, 1899 को पंजाब के संगरूर जनपद के सुनाम गाँव में हुआ था। उनकी ज़िन्दगी काफ़ी जद्दोजहद-भरी रही। बचपन में ही अन्याय, अनीति और शोषण के प्रति उनके मन में तीव्र प्रतिकार-भाव था, जो आगे चलकर उन्हें देशभक्त क्रान्तिकारी बनाने में सहायक हुआ। सर्वधर्म-समभाव की वह ज़िन्दा मिसाल थे। उन्होंने अपना नाम ‘राम मुहम्मद सिंह आज़ाद’ रख लिया था। यही कारण रहा कि वह हर भारतीय के अपने थे—चाहे वो हिन्दू हो, मुसलमान हो या सिख। उन्हें 31 जुलाई, 1940 को फाँसी दे दी गई थी। उनकी शहादत के बाद हिन्दुओं ने अस्थि विसर्जन हरिद्वार में किया तो मुसलमानों ने फ़तेहगढ़ मस्जिद और सिखों ने करंत साहब में अपने-अपने रीति अनुसार उनकी अन्त्येष्टि सम्पन्न की थी। भाषा इतनी सहज कि बस्स पढ़ते चले जाएँ उपन्यास वर्क़-दर-वर्क़। इतिहास को पठनीय कैसे बनाया जाए—यह उपन्यास इसका जीवन्त साक्ष्य है।
