In Relativity: The Special and the General Theory, Einstein describes the theories that made him famous, illuminating his case with numerous examples and a smattering of math. This book is not a casual read, but for those who appreciate his work without diving into the arcana of theoretical physics, it will prove a stimulating read. “The present book is intended,” Einstein wrote in 1916, “as far as possible, to give an exact insight into the theory of relativity to those readers who, from a general scientific and philosophical point of view, are interested in the theory, but who are not conversant with the mathematical apparatus of theoretical physics.”

To the majority of people Einstein's theory is a complete mystery. Their attitude towards Einstein is like that of Mark Twain towards the writer of a work on mathematics: here was a man who had written an entire book of which Mark could not understand a single sentence. Einstein, therefore, is great in the public eye partly because he has made revolutionary discoveries which cannot be translated into the common tongue. We stand in proper awe of a man whose thoughts move on heights far beyond our range, whose achievements can be measured only by the few who are able to follow his reasoning and challenge his conclusions. There is, however, another side to his personality. It is revealed in the addresses, letters, and occasional writings brought together in this book. These fragments form a mosaic portrait of Einstein the man. Each one is, in a sense, complete in itself; it presents his views on some aspect of progress, education, peace, war, liberty, or other problems of universal.

In this book an attempt has been made to compare the two legendary writers by comparing the eastern way of thinking with the western way. Shakespeare is amongst the writers Sri Aurobindo holds in high esteem. Sri Aurobindo’s admiration for the great dramatist resulted in obvious Shakespearean influences on him. He adopts for his plays Elizabethan model of drama perfected by Shakespeare’s genius. Shakespeare’s influence is traceable also in Sri Aurobindo’s sonnets. It is said that Sri Aurobindo had Shakespearean literature on his bed-side when he left his mortal remains. Both the great writers were not satisfied by merely holding mirror to the nature but due to their greater and deeper life power, they recreated the human life in its beauty and completeness. Therefore, there is an obvious need to compare and contrast Shakeapeare and Sri Aurobindo so as to bring out affinities that may be there between their creative ideal and vision as well as their poetic and dramatic art, along with the former’s influence on the later. In this book an attempt has been made to fulfill the need and to contribute, in some measure to the appreciation of Sri Aurobindo’s poetry and plays. It also briefly touches upon Indian response to Shakespeare. It focuses mainly on Sri Aurobindo’s numerous insights and critical observations on him. To sum up writings of the two such outstanding writers, who represent two very different ways of thinking. On one hand Shakespeare potrays lot of blood shed, gory tales and a wild kind of poetic justice in his writings, but on the other hand Sri Aurobindo truely follows Indian ethos of non violence or ‘Ahimsa’. The author underlines the stark similarities and differences in both the writer’s exploring their plays and sonnets. The structure of plays and sonnets may be same of both the greatest minds but ethos and personna ingrained in their writings is quite different.

Selected Readings of Sri Ramanuja: Sri Ramanujacharya is one of the three great acharyas whose Sahasramanotsava was recently celebrated with joy and grandeur. His efforts to uplift the poor and oppressed are remarkable. Over his 120-year life, he authored numerous works to inspire devotion in the masses by emphasising the concept of Saranagati or Prapatti (self-surrender to God). Scholars from both Eastern and Western traditions, including Swami Vivekananda and Dr. S. Radhakrishnan, as well as Goethe and Ninian Smart, have honoured Ramanuja with high praise. His altruistic service, compassion, and love for the uneducated and impoverished remain relevant today. This book, in 25 chapters, explores the influence of the Vishishtadvaita philosophy within Indian tradition, organised into three sections: Predecessors of Ramanuja, Ramanuja himself, and his Successors. The final chapter discusses Ramanuja's enduring significance for the 21st century, offering a comprehensive overview of his contributions to Indian thought.

"From Hampi to Harappa" is considered among the top ten Telugu autobiographies of the twentieth century. Ramachandra's honesty, self-reflection, and the conflict between his traditional Vaishnava beliefs and modern education make this book remarkable. During the nationalist struggle, he was attracted to extremist ideas but found his own path again through personal struggles. It's astonishing that someone who was a great scholar in Sanskrit, Telugu, Kannada, and Prakrit, had to experience hunger and travel across India to find work to feed himself in the 1930s and 40s. The book is filled with unbelievable incidents, such as his mentor Veturi Prabhakara Sastry experiencing extreme hunger while the author survived on very little food. Similarly, he survived on Ganga water for almost a month while waiting in Kanpur for a conman who had promised a business partnership. He did a variety of jobs, including working as a cataloguer in manuscript libraries, a hotel worker, and a Havaldar clerk in the military, before finally settling in a newspaper. Through his experiences, Ramachandra provides us with glimpses of the civilizations around Hampi and Harappa and insights into modern India during the Independence Movement.

My Autobiography | Autobiography of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar | Ambedkar's Challenges, Ambitions, and Accomplishments

Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi 2 October 1869 – 30 January 1948) was an Indian lawyer, anti-colonial nationalist, and political ethicist, who employed nonviolent resistance to lead the successful campaign for India's independence from British Rule, and in turn inspired movements for civil rights and freedom across the world. The honorific Mahātmā (Sanskrit: "great-souled", "venerable"), first applied to him in 1914 in South Africa, is now used throughout the world. Born and raised in a Hindu family in coastal Gujarat, western India, Gandhi trained in law at the Inner Temple, London, and was called to the bar at age 22 in June 1891. After two uncertain years in India, where he was unable to start a successful law practice, he moved to South Africa in 1893 to represent an Indian merchant in a lawsuit. He went on to stay for 21 years. It was in South Africa that Gandhi raised a family, and first employed nonviolent resistance in a campaign for civil rights. In 1915, aged 45, he returned to India. He set about organising peasants, farmers, and urban labourers to protest against excessive land-tax and discrimination. Assuming leadership of the Indian National Congress in 1921, Gandhi led nationwide campaigns for easing poverty, expanding women's rights, building religious and ethnic amity, ending untouchability, and above all for achieving Swaraj or self-rule. Gandhi's vision of an independent India based on religious pluralism was challenged in the early 1940s by a new Muslim nationalism which was demanding a separate Muslim homeland carved out of India. In August 1947, Britain granted independence, but the British Indian Empire was partitioned into two dominions, a Hindu-majority India and Muslim-majority Pakistan

"Up from Slavery is the 1901 autobiography of American educator Booker T. Washington (1856-1915). The book describes his experience of working to rise up from being enslaved as a child during the Civil War, the obstacles he overcame to get an education at the new Hampton Institute, and his work establishing vocational schools like the Tuskegee Institute in Alabama to help black people and other persecuted people of colour learn useful, marketable skills and work to pull themselves, as a race, up by the bootstraps. He reflects on the generosity of teachers and philanthropists who helped educate black and Native Americans. He describes his efforts to instill manners, breeding, health, and dignity in students."

Discovered in the attic in which she spent the last years of her life, Anne Frank's remarkable diary has since become a world classic—a powerful reminder of the horrors of war and an eloquent testament to the human spirit. The Diary is a lot of things all at once. It is an amusing, enlightening, and often moving account of the process of adolescence, as Anne describes her thoughts and feelings about herself and the people around her, the world at large, and life in general. It is an accurate record of the way a young girl grows up and matures, in the very special circumstances in which Anne found herself throughout the two years during which she was in hiding. And it is also a vividly terrifying description of what it was like to be a Jew — and in hiding— at a time when the Nazis sought to kill all the Jews of Europe.

Annelies Marie "Anne" Frank 12 June 1929 – February or March 1945) was a German-Dutch diarist of Jewish origin. One of the most discussed Jewish victims of the Holocaust, she gained fame posthumously with the publication of The Diary of a Young Girl. Born in Frankfurt, Germany, she lived most of her life in or near Amsterdam, Netherlands, having moved there with her family at the age of four and a half. Born a German national, she lost her citizenship in 1941 and thus became stateless. By May 1940, the Franks were trapped in Amsterdam by the German occupation of the Netherlands. As persecutions of the Jewish population increased in July 1942, the Franks went into hiding in some concealed rooms behind a bookcase in the building where Anne's father, Otto Frank, worked. From then until the family's arrest by the Gestapo in August 1944, she kept a diary she had received as a birthday present, and wrote in it regularly. Following their arrest, the Franks were transported to concentration camps. In October or November 1944, Anne and her sister, Margot, were transferred from Auschwitz to Bergen-Belsen concentration camp, where they died (probably of typhus) a few months later. They were originally estimated by the Red Cross to have died in March, with Dutch authorities setting 31 March as their official date of death, but research by the Anne Frank House in 2015 suggests it is more likely that they died in February. Discovered in the attic in which she spent the last years of her life, Anne Frank's remarkable diary has since become a world classic—a powerful reminder of the horrors of war and an eloquent testament to the human spirit. The Diary is many things at once. It is an amusing, enlightening, and often moving account of adolescence, as Anne describes her thoughts and feelings about herself, the people around her, the world at large, and life in general. It is an accurate record of how a young girl grows up and matures, under the very special circumstances in which Anne found herself throughout the two years she spent in hiding.

Chandrashekhar Azad’s short and chequered life as a revolutionary is remembered in the annals of India’s freedom struggle not merely for his indomitability in the face of odds, but also for the human values he cherished. In today’s world, with the edifice of every conceivable value crumbling all around us, Azad’s life offers a paradigm for the redemption of a generation resigned to shallow ideals. Adversity came a dime a dozen to this village youth born to poor parents rich in morality and humaneness. It’s the roots that determine a person's actions and destiny. At a time when we seem to be taking our freedom for granted, Azad’s biography is a reminder of the blood and toil that went into securing it. The road to preservation of freedom must be hemmed with respect for what we have, for being fortunate to be able to breathe in free air. The crucial caveat embedded in Azad’s biography is that we face a far greater threat from the enemies within than from enemies without.
