His father's name was Rif'at Ullah Qureshi and his mother's name was Maqbool-un-Nisa Begum. He earned his Bachelor of Arts in urdufrom Devi Ahilya University, Indore, his Master of Arts in urduliterature from Awadh University, and his Ph.D. (in urduon Mushaira) from M.P. Bhoj University. Dr. Rahat Indori worked as a professor of urduliterature at I.K. College, Devi Ahilya University, Indore, for 16 years. He was the editor of the urduquarterly magazine "Shaakhein" for 10 years, published from Indore. Many researchers have earned their Ph.D. degrees on the life and works of Dr. Rahat Indori at various Indian and Pakistani universities. Dr. Rahat Indori's ghazals are included in the urdusyllabus of Class 9 and 11 of the Maharashtra State Board.
