- Description: विचार आता है, सभी फूल अशोक जैसे क्यों नहीं बनाए सृष्टा ने? कौन सी विवशता के कारण कुटज की, कुटज जैसे उजाड़ में ही जन्मकर जीवन बिता देनेवालों की सृष्टि करनी पड़ी। इसलिए कि कुटज नहीं बनाए जाते तो अशोक की पहचान कैसे बनती? सर्जक की विवशता थी कि वह अशोक के आभिजात्य को दरशाने के लिए कुटज के बियाबान को रचता। बियाबानों की नियति ही है कि वे हरे-भरे उद्यानों को पहचान देने के लिए निर्मित कर दिए जाते हैं। कुटज और उसके जैसे फूल इसी विवशता की देन हैं और यह विवशता भी इसलिए है कि अशोक की सामथ्र्य के बूते पर ही सर्जक की सत्ता टिकी रहती है, इसलिए सृष्टा की विवशता का किरीट है कुटज। ठीक अशोक और कुटज की तरह मनुष्य भी गढऩे पड़े। सर्जक ने आरंभ में बनाए तो सभी मनुष्य एक जैसे, लेकिन समय के आगे बढऩे के साथ यह समानता स्वयं सृष्टा को भारी पड़ी। मनुष्य ने ही उसे विवश किया कि वह इस समानता में बदलाव लाए और परिणाम यह हुआ कि फिर मनुष्य भी अशोक और कुटज होने लगे। —इसी संग्रह से प्रसिद्ध ललित-निबंधकार श्री नर्मदा प्रसाद उपाध्याय के भाषाई लालित्य और भारतीय दृष्टि से समादृत निबंध, जो पाठकों के अंतस को छू जाएँगे और रससिक्त करेंगे। आवरण—अजंता की दूसरी गुफा की सीलिंग पर निर्मित भित्तिचित्र : पाँचवीं सदी।

अज्ञेय का लेखन इतना विपुल और वैविध्यपूर्ण है कि उसमें से उद्धरणों के एक चयन की बात सोचते ही पहला सवाल तो उसकी क्रम-प्रक्रिया को लेकर ही सामने आया। लगभग सभी साहित्यिक विधाओं में उत्कृष्ट लेखन के साथ-साथ अज्ञेय ने मानव-जीवन और समाज से जुड़ी सभी समस्याओं पर भी स्वतन्त्र रूप से सम्यक् विचार किया है। अज्ञेय के लिए न केवल साहित्य बल्कि पूरा मानव-जीवन ही मूल्यान्वेषण की प्रक्रिया है।
इस क्रम से आरम्भ करने पर सहज ही केन्द्रीय मूल्य स्वतन्त्रता और उनसे जुड़े सवालों को अलगे चरण में रख पाना उचित लगा और साहित्य क्योंकि मूल्यान्वेषण की प्रक्रिया है, अत: भाषा, साहित्य आदि से जुड़े चिन्तन से चयन किये जाने वाले उद्धरणों का क्रम भी तय हो गया।
इस चयन से गुज़रते हुए पाठक को यह महसूस हो सकता है कि अज्ञेय जब किसी दार्शनिक या तर्कशास्त्रीय गुत्थी पर भी विचार करते हैं तो उनका चिन्तन अधिकांशत: किसी अकादेमिक दार्शनिक की तरह का नहीं, बल्कि एक संवेदनात्मक दृष्टि, या कहें कि कवि-दृष्टि से किया गया चिन्तन होता है। अज्ञेय का चिन्तन कवि-दृष्टि का चिन्तन है, अकादेमिक नहीं। शायद, इसलिए इस कवि-दृष्टि के विमर्शात्मक चिन्तन और कविताओं के बीज-संवेदन का अहसास भी सुधी पाठकों को हो सकेगा।
पाठक यदि चयन की इन मोटी रेखाओं के सहारे अज्ञेय के चिन्तन और कवि-कर्म की विपुलता, विविधता और सूक्ष्मता में प्रवेश करने की प्रेरणा पा सकें, तो यही इस चयन की सार्थकता होगी। अज्ञेय के कवि-कर्म और चिन्तन के द्वन्द्वों-समाधानों और प्रक्रियाओं-निष्कर्षों में ऐसा बहुत कुछ है जो किसी भी समय के लेखक-पाठक के लिए सदैव प्रासंगिक रहेगा।

- Description: भारतीय जेलों में पाँच साल बीसवीं सदी के सातवें दशक का ऐसा कैमरा है, जिसकी तस्वीरें विभिन्न कोणों से भारत का साक्षात्कार कराती हैं। बंगाल के नक्सलबाड़ी गाँव से नक्सलवादी आन्दोलन की शुरुआत सन् 1967 में हुई थी, जहाँ किसानों ने बड़े ज़मींदारों के विरुद्ध सशस्त्र विद्रोह किया था। धीरे-धीरे यह आन्दोलन बंगाल से देश के अन्य प्रान्तों में फैल गया। विद्रोहियों का उद्देश्य जनता की सरकार क़ायम करना था। विद्रोह को दबाने के लिए दमनात्मक कार्रवाई की गई, जिसके शिकार सिर्फ़ कथित नक्सली ही नहीं हुए बल्कि आम भारतीय किसान और मज़दूर भी हुए। उसी दौरान इस पुस्तक की लेखक मेरी टाइलर को भी विदेशी जासूस समझकर अन्य विद्रोहियों के समान गिरफ़्तार कर जेल भेज दिया गया था। जेल में रहते हुए उन्होंने विद्रोहियों के जीवन-संघर्ष को काफ़ी निकट से जाना। उन्होंने महसूस किया कि नक्सलियों की जनता के प्रति निष्ठा तथा आत्मबलिदान ही नक्सलवादी आन्दोलन को मिले अपार जनसमर्थन के कारण बने। नक्सलियों की ईमानदार जनपक्षधरता ने मेरी टाइलर को अभिभूत किया। उनके ब्रिटेन से आकर भारत में रहने के पीछे मूल प्रेरणा कृषि-क्रान्ति के लिए हुआ यही सशस्त्र विद्रोह था। यह पुस्तक उनके अनुभवों, संस्मरणों तथा घटनाओं का लेखा-जोखा है, जिसको उन्होंने प्रत्यक्षतः देखा। यहाँ जेल में रहने के दौरान उन्हें भी तरह-तरह की यातनाओं से दो-चार होना पड़ा। नक्सलवादी आन्दोलन के बहाने पुस्तक ऐसे कई दरीचे खोलती है, जहाँ से तत्कालीन भारत की उन सामाजिक, आर्थिक तथा राजनीतिक स्थितियों से उपजे प्रश्नों को साफ़-साफ़ देखा जा सकता है जिनमें से ज़्यादातर अब तक अनुत्तरित हैं। स्वातंत्र्योत्तर भारत को जानने-समझने के लिए एक ज़रूरी पुस्तक!

Over the last many centuries, Indians have travelled to many near and far off destinations in the world for trade, business, education and jobs. One major wave of such movement was carried out by the colonial administration under the so called indentured system for meeting labour shortages in their overseas plantations. This inhuman system of exploitation of workers finally ended and the centenary of its abolition was commemorated in many parts of the world including India during 2017-18. Antar Rashtrya Sahyog Parishad (ARSP) had organised year-long activities to mark this important landmark in the life of the Indian diaspora, culminating with an international conference on the topic, ‘Contribution of Diaspora in Nation Building’ in Mauritius in July 2018. Several leaders and scholars addressed this gathering, and this publication captures the essence of its outcomes. This publication could be a good reference for students and scholars working on diaspora.
