- Description: पंचतंत्र की कहानियों की रचना आज से लगभग 2000 वर्ष पूर्व भारत के दक्षिण में स्थित तत्कालीन महिलारोप्य नामक नगर में राजा अमरशक्ति के शासनकाल में हुई। राजा अमरशक्ति ने अपने तीन मूर्ख और अहंकारी पुत्रों— बहुशक्ति, उग्रशक्ति और अनंतशक्ति के प्रशिक्षण की जिम्मेदारी सर्वशास्त्रों के ज्ञाता और कुशल ब्राह्मण पंडित विष्णु शर्मा को सौंपी। राजकुमारों को व्यावहारिक रूप से प्रशिक्षित करने के लिए पंडित विष्णु शर्मा ने नीतिशास्त्र से संबंधित कथाएँ उन्हें सुनाईं। इन कथाओं में पात्रों के रूप में उन्होंने पशु-पक्षियों का वर्णन किया और अपने विचारों को कथारूप में मुख से व्यक्त कर राजकुमारों को उचित-अनुचित आदि का ज्ञान दिया व व्यावहारिक रूप से प्रशिक्षित किया। राजकुमारों का शिक्षण पूरा होने पर पंडित विष्णु शर्मा ने इन कहानियों को पंचतंत्र की प्रेरक कहानियों के रूप में संकलित किया। आज भी इन अमर कथाओं की प्रासंगिकता जस-की-तस बनी हुई है। इनके अध्ययन और अनुकरण द्वारा निश्चित ही नीतिशास्त्र में निपुण हुआ जा सकता है, इसमें जरा भी संदेह नहीं है। हर आयु के पाठकों के लिए पठनीय, संग्रणीय और अनुकरणीय पुस्तक।

भारत के सभी सत्ताधारी वर्णाश्रम धर्म के मौन समर्थक हैं, ऐसा नहीं है, मुझे ऐसा लगता है कि वर्णाश्रम धर्म, वर्तमान सत्ताधारी पार्टी की विचारधारा, हिन्दुत्व, का अभिन्न अंग है। इसके प्रवक्ता गोलवलकर ने साफ शब्दों में लिखा था कि वर्ण और आश्रम, समाज में हिन्दू ढाँचे की विशेषताएँ हैं।
भारत में हिन्दुत्ववादी आन्दोलन के समर्थक वर्ण, आश्रम और जाति-प्रथा के सार्वजनिक व्यख्याता और प्रशंसक हैं। अगर नरमपंथी—हिन्दू राष्ट्रवादी, वर्णाश्रम धर्म के विरोध में हैं, तो वे हिन्दुत्व के प्रखर विरोध के लिए आगे क्यों नहीं आते हैं! और समतामूलक सोच और समाज का अभियान क्यों नहीं चलाते? यह ग्रंथ और पेरियार ललई सिंह का चिन्तन इसी बात को चरितार्थ करता है।
