उनके जीवन के लगभग अड़सठ वर्ष (1929–1997) रचनाकर्म को समर्पित। कविता, उपन्यास, संस्मरण, यात्रावृत्त, निबन्ध, बाल–साहित्य आदि सभी विधाओं में उन्होंने लिखा। हिन्दी के अलावा मैथिली, बांग्ला और संस्कृत में भी उन्होंने न सिर्फ़ मौलिक रचनाएँ कीं, इन भाषाओं से अनुवाद भी किए। कुछ पत्र–पत्रिकाओं में उन्होंने स्तम्भ-लेखन भी किया। रचनावली के प्रथम खंड में बाबा की उन सभी कविताओं को संकलित किया गया है, जिनका रचनाकाल 1967 ई. तक है। ‘युगधारा’, ‘सतरंगे पंखोंवाली’, ‘प्यासी पथराई आँखें’, ‘तुमने कहा था’, ‘हज़ार–हज़ार बाँहोंवाली’, ‘पुरानी जूतियों का कोरस’, ‘रत्नगर्भ’, ‘इस गुब्बारे की छाया में’ तथा ‘भूल जाओ पुराने सपने’—इन संग्रहों से 1967 तक की सभी कविताओं को कालक्रम से यहाँ ले लिया गया है। इसके अलावा नागार्जुन के सर्वाधिक प्रिय कवि कालिदास की रचना ‘मेघदूत’ का उनके द्वारा मुक्तछन्द में किया गया अनुवाद भी इसमें संकलित है। यह अनुवाद 1953 में ‘साप्ताहिक हिन्दुस्तान’ के एक ही अंक में प्रकाशित हुआ। इसके बाद 1955 में पुस्तकाकार प्रकाशन के समय इसमें एक लम्बी भूमिका और कुछ पादटिप्पणियाँ भी जोड़ी गर्इं। रचनावली में वह इसी रूप में उपलब्ध है।

पं दीनदयाल उपाध्याय बीसवीं शताब्दी को अपने विलक्षण व्यक्तित्व, अपरिमेय कर्तृत्व एवं क्रांतिकारी दृष्टिकोण से प्रभावित करनेवाले युगद्रष्टा ऋषि, महर्षि एवं ब्रह्मर्षि थे। उपाध्यायजी के पुरुषार्थी जीवन की सबसे बड़ी पहचान है गत्यात्मकता। वे अपने जीवन में कभी कहीं रुके नहीं, झुके नहीं। यही कारण है कि समस्त प्रतिकूलताओं के बीच भी उन्होंने अपने लक्ष्य के दीप को सुरक्षित रखते हुए उदभासित किया। उन्होंने राष्ट्र-प्रेम को सर्वोच्च स्थान देने के साथ-साथ, शिक्षा, साहित्य, शोध, सेवा, संगठन, संस्कृति, साधना सभी के साथ जीवन-मूल्यों को तलाशा, उन्हें जीवन-शैली से जोड़ा। इस पुस्तक में पंडितजी को एक ऐसे राजनेता के रूप में प्रस्तुत किया गया है, जिन्होंने न केवल स्वयं भारत को भारत के दृष्टिकोण से जानने-समझने-देखने की दृष्टि विकसित की, अपितु दूसरों को भी वैसी ही संदृष्टि प्रदान की। भारत की चिति एवं प्रकृति के मौलिक एवं सूक्ष्म द्रष्टा थे 'पं. दीनदयाल उपाध्यायजी, जिन्होंने सही अर्थों में व्यष्टि एवं समष्टि के चिरंतन सत्य एवं सदियों के अनुभव का साक्षात्कार कर, एक ऐसे उदबोध को प्रवृत्त किया, जिसका स्पंदन भारत की माटी में समाहित है। यह कृति “सांस्कृतिक राष्ट्रवाद के अग्रदूत : पं. दीनदयाल उपाध्याय ' पंडितजी के विचार पाथेय को जन-जन तक पहुँचाने में निमित्त बनेगी और भारतीय संस्कृति के बिंब, जन-संस्कृति के रूप में वैश्विक धरातल पर नई चेतना को स्फूर्त करेगी; ऐसा दृढ़ विश्वास है।

"गोदान" प्रेमचंद (Godan By Munshi Premchand in Hindi) आधुनिक हिंदी साहित्य के कालजयी कथाकार हैं। कथा-कुल की सभी विधाओं—कहानी, उपन्यास, लघुकथा आदि सभी में उन्होंने लिखा और अपनी लगभग पैंतीस वर्ष की साहित्य-साधना तथा लगभग चौदह उपन्यासों एवं तीन सौ कहानियों की रचना करके ‘प्रेमचंद युग’ के रूप में स्वीकृत होकर सदैव के लिए अमर हो गए। प्रेमचंद का ‘सेवासदन’ उपन्यास इतना लोकप्रिय हुआ कि वह हिंदी का बेहतरीन उपन्यास माना गया। ‘सेवासदन’ में वेश्या-समस्या और उसके समाधान का चित्रण है, जो हिंदी मानस के लिए नई विषयवस्तु थी। ‘प्रेमाश्रम’ में जमींदार-किसान के संबंधों तथा पश्चिमी सभ्यता के पड़ते प्रभाव का उद्घाटन है। ‘रंगभूमि’ में सूरदास के माध्यम से गांधी के स्वाधीनता संग्राम का बड़ा व्यापक चित्रण है। ‘कायाकल्प’ में शारीरिक एवं मानसिक कायाकल्प की कथा है। ‘निर्मला’ में दहेज-प्रथा तथा बेमेल-विवाह के दुष्परिणामों की कथा है। ‘प्रतिज्ञा’ उपन्यास में पुनः ‘प्रेमा’ की कथा को कुछ परिवर्तन के साथ प्रस्तुत किया गया है। ‘गबन’ में युवा पीढ़ी की पतन-गाथा है और ‘कर्मभूमि’ में देश के राजनीति संघर्ष को रेखांकित किया गया है। ‘गोदान’ में कृषक और कृषि-जीवन के विध्वंस की त्रासद कहानी है। उपन्यासकार के रूप में प्रेमचंद का महान् योगदान है। उन्होंने हिंदी उपन्यास को भारतीय मुहावरा दिया और उसे समाज और संस्कृति से जोड़ा तथा साधारण व्यक्ति को नायक बनाकर नया आदर्श प्रस्तुत किया। उन्होंने हिंदी भाषा को मानक रूप दिया और देश-विदेश में हिंदी उपन्यास को भारतीय रूप देकर सदैव के लिए अमर बना दिया। —डॉ. कमल किशोर गोयनका
