कई भाषाओं के ज्ञाता, संस्कृत के विद्वान और प्रगतिशील चेतना से सम्पन्न कवि त्रिलोचन ने रोला और बरवै जैसे प्राचीन छन्दों को भी साधा, गीत-ग़ज़ल भी लिखे और 'सॉनेट' जैसे विदेशी छन्द को हिन्दी का अपना बना दिया। मुक्त-छन्द भी लिखा और 'गद्य-वद्य' लिखते हुए आलोचना को भी एक आत्मीय रंग दिया।
यह त्रिलोचन की रचनावली है, जिसकी ज़रूरत लम्बे समय से महसूस की जा रही थी। त्रिलोचन महज़ एक कवि नहीं, कविता के विद्यालय थे; मौज़ूदा और आनेवाले रचनाकार उनसे हमेशा ही सीख सकते हैं। प्रस्तुत रचनावली में त्रिलोचन का सम्पूर्ण संकलित है।
कविताओं के साथ-साथ त्रिलोचन ने आलोचनात्मक गद्य भी लिखा। इस खंड में उनके द्वारा लिखित आलोचनात्मक लेखों, समीक्षाओं आदि को लिया गया है। कविता हो या गद्य उन्होंने बोलचाल की भाषा को ही प्राथमिकता दी। यह इन आलेखों से भी ज़ाहिर होता है। कुछ अप्रकाशित लेख भी यहाँ प्रस्तुत हैं। साथ में उनकी दैनन्दिनी भी।

- Description: बाग्ला साहित्य बड़ा सरस और क्रांतिकारी रहा है। बांग्ला में उपन्यास तथा कहानी विधा को खूब प्रश्रय मिला। बंकिमचंद्र चट्टोपाध्याय उपन्यास के साथ-साथ छोटी कहानियाँ भी लिखते रहे। स्वर्णकुमारी देवी एवं कुछ अन्य महिलाएँ भी पत्र-पत्रिकाओं में बांग्ला कहानियाँ प्रकाशित करवाती रहीं। किंतु बांग्ला कहानी, गल्प-रचना के आदर्श रूप का प्रकाशन 1877 ईस्वी में प्रकाशित ‘रामेश्वरेर अदृश्य’ नामक कहानी द्वारा हुआ, जिसे संजीव चंद चट्टोपाध्याय ने प्रकाशित करवाया था। अंग्रेजी लघु-कथाओं के समानांतर बांग्ला कहानी का अपना खुद का रचना-विधान-शिल्प और कथ्य सर्वप्रथम कवि रवींद्रनाथ ठाकुर की कहानी ‘क्षुधित पाषाण’ से सन् 1890 ई. में स्वाभाविक रूप से संरचित हुआ। कहानी की आकृति और प्रकृति निश्चित हो जाने के उपरांत बांग्ला कहानी क्रमश: एक से एक ऊँचाइयाँ छूती गई। ऐसे ही कथारस से परिपूर्ण बांग्ला के श्रेष्ठ कथाकारों की लोकप्रिय कहानियाँ इस संग्रह में संकलित हैं। ये कहानियाँ एक ओर जहाँ बांग्ला समाज के उत्थान, विसंगति एवं ऊहापोह को दिग्दर्शित करती हैं, वहीं रोचक होने के कारण पाठकों का भरपूर मनोरंजन एवं ज्ञानवर्धन भी करती हैं।

- Description: किसी कहानी को लोकप्रिय तो पाठक ही बनाता है। जो रचना पाठकों द्वारा पढ़ी ही न जाए, वह लोकप्रिय नहीं होती। किंतु इसका अर्थ यह नहीं है कि जो रचना लेखक को प्रिय न हो, पाठक उसे लोकप्रिय बना देगा। वस्तुतः कहानियाँ लेखक और पाठक दोनों की रुचि से लोकप्रिय बनती हैं। मैंने 1960-70 के दौर में कहानियाँ लिखी थीं। तब तक वे उपन्यास नहीं लिखे गए थे, जिन्होंने अपनी लोकप्रियता के बल पर कहानियों की चर्चा को मंद कर दिया है। इसके पश्चात् उपन्यासों ने कहानियों को अपना अंग ही बना लिया। लिखने को तो अब भी कहानी लिखने बैठ जाता हूँ, लिख भी लेता हूँ, किंतु मेरे लेखन के केंद्र में कहानी नहीं है। फिर भी कह सकता हूँ कि ‘परिणति’, ‘नमक का कैदी’, ‘संचित भूख’, ‘किरचे’, ‘निचले फ्लैट में’ और ‘नींद आने तक’ जैसी कहानियाँ न मुझसे भुलाई गई हैं और न पाठकों द्वारा उनकी उपेक्षा की स्थिति आई है। यदा-कदा उनकी चर्चा होती ही रहती है। वह मेरी किशोरावस्था थी। उसमें समाज के प्रति दायित्वबोध भी था और प्रेम का आकर्षण भी। उनमें मेरे भाई-बहन भी हैं और मेरी सखियाँ भी। वह जीवन का वह महत्त्वपूर्ण मोड़ था, जिसे भुलाना संभव नहीं है। परिणामतः आज आधी शताब्दी के पश्चात् भी वे कहानियाँ मुझे प्रिय हैं। —नरेंद्र कोहली
