చేరమానుని ప్రేయసి చేరమాన్ కాదలి నవలలోని కథానాయకుడు భాస్కర రవివర్మ రెండో చేరమాన్ పెరుమాళ్ బావమరిది కుమారుడు. ఇతని మొదటి ప్రియురాలు యూదు యువతి యూజియానా ఆమె గర్భవతి అయింది. నంబూద్రీల కుట్ర వలన ఇజ్రాయిల్కు పంపించేస్తారు. రెండో ప్రియురాలు ముస్లిం మహిళ సలీమా. ఈమె సంబంధీకులు రవివర్మని ముస్లీంగా మత మార్పిడి చేశాక, మూడో చేరమాన్ పెరుమాళ్ తన ముస్లీం భార్యతో అరేబియా రేవు పట్టణం చేరి అక్కడ నుంచి మక్కా వెళ్లి మహమ్మదీయ మతస్థునిగా మారి అబ్దుల్ రహమాన్ చామొరియన్గా మతం మార్చుకుని జబార్ అన్న ఊరిలోకి చేరుకుని కొంత కాలం జీవించాడు... కాలక్రమేణా వృద్ధాప్యం పైబడి మహమ్మదీయస్తీ పరిచర్యలో కొంత కాలం జీవించాడు... రవివర్మ జబార్లోనే క్రీ.త. 838లో చనిపోయాడు... ఆయనకా ఊరిలోనే ఆయన శరీరాన్ని ఖననం చేసి సమాధి కట్టారు... దాని మీద చేరదేశ రాజు 'అబ్దుల్ రెహమాన్ చామొరియన్' ఈయన ఏ. ఎచ్ -212లో వచ్చి ఏ. ఎచ్-216లో మరణించారు అని ఆరేబియన్ భాషలో రాసుంది. 'చేరమాన్' అన్న చారిత్రాత్మిక నవల తమిళంలో ప్రసిద్ధ కవి, రచయిత కీ.శే. కణ్ణదాసన్ గారు... అనేక సినిమాలకు (తమిళ) పాటలు, సంభాషణలు రాశారు. వారి 'చేరమాన్ కాదలి'కి 1983లో సాహిత్య అకాదెమి పురస్కారం లభించింది.

కథాంశము: నంగేమ అంతర్జనం అనే అభ్యుదయ భావాలు కలిగిన ఒక నంబూద్రి మహిళ కథ ఇది. భర్త సమాజం కోసం సర్వస్వాన్ని త్యాగం చేసి తన ఆశయాలేవీ సాకారం కాకుండానే, పసివాళ్ళను దారిద్ర్యంలో వదిలేసి మరణించినాడు. కష్టాలను అధిగమించటానికి తన తమ్ముడితో కలిసి పరాయి ప్రదేశమైన వయనాడుకు వలస వెళ్తుంది నంగేమ. చిన్నగా అక్కడి గిరిజన స్త్రీలకు, కూలీలకు అవసరమైన నిత్యావసర వస్తువుల వ్యాపారాన్ని ప్రారంభిస్తుంది. తన సంపాదనతో పాటు కొంత అప్పు చేసి పొలాన్ని కొని స్వయంగా పర్యవేక్షిస్తూ ఎంతో సాహసంతో వ్యవసాయాన్ని నిర్వహిస్తుంది. స్వంత ఇంటిని నిర్మించుకుంటుంది. ఆమె ఎంతో వద్దనుకున్నా కొడుకు కూడా తండ్రి లాగే విప్లవపు బాటలో నడుస్తాడు. పోలీసుల చెరలో చిక్కుతాడు. చివరికి అన్నింటినీ వదిలేసుకుని నంగేమ తిరిగి తన స్వంత ఊరికి వెళ్ళిపోతుంది.
