Three Men in A Boat, published in 1889, is a humorous account by English writer Jerome K. Jerome of a two-week boating holiday on the Thames from Kingston upon Thames to Oxford and back to Kingston.
The book was initially intended to be a serious travel guide, with accounts of local history along the route, but the humorous elements took over to the point where the serious and somewhat sentimental passages seemed a distraction from the comic novel.
One of the most praised things about Three Men in a Boat is how undated it appears to modern readers—the jokes have been praised as fresh and witty.

- Description: दक्षिण अफ्रीका के पहले अश्वेत राष्ट्रपति नेल्सन मंडेला ने रंगभेद विरोधी नीतियों के खिलाफ जमकर संघर्ष कर दुनिया के सामने एक अद्भुत उदाहरण प्रस्तुत किया। 1944 में अफ्रीका नैशनल कांग्रेस में शामिल होने के बाद लगातार रंगभेद के खिलाफ लड़ते रहे और राजद्रोह के आरोप में 1962 में गिरफ्तार कर लिये गए। उम्रकैद की सजा सुनाकर इन्हें रॉबेन द्वीप पर भेज दिया गया। किंतु सजा से भी इनका उत्साह कम नहीं हुआ। इन्होंने जेल में अश्वेत कैदियों को भी लामबंद करना शुरू किया। इस कारण जेल में लोग इन्हें ‘मंडेला विश्वविद्यालय’ कहा करते थे। जीवन के 27 वर्ष कारागार में बिताने के बाद अंतत: 11 फरवरी, 1990 को रिहाई हुई और अफ्रीका के प्रथम अश्वेत राष्ट्रपति बने। समझौते और शांति की नीति द्वारा उन्होंने एक लोकतांत्रिक एवं बहुजातीय अफ्रीका की नींव रखी। इससे रंगभेद काफी हद तक समाप्त हुआ और बाद में उनके विरोधी भी उनके प्रशंसक बने। श्री मंडेला को उनके कार्यों के लिए दुनिया भर से पुरस्कार एवं सम्मान मिले। 1993 में उन्हें विश्व शांति के लिए ‘नोबेल पुरस्कार’ तथा 2008 में भारत के प्रतिष्ठित ‘गांधी शांति पुरस्कार’ से सम्मानित किया गया। श्री मंडेला अपने कार्यों का प्रेरणा-स्रोत महात्मा गांधी को बताते हैं। प्रस्तुत पुस्तक में उनके कैदी से लेकर राष्ट्रपति बनने तक की संघर्षपूर्ण जीवन का मार्मिक वर्णन है। एक अंतरराष्ट्रीय प्रेरणा- पुरुष की प्रेरक जीवन-गाथा।
