तसलीमा नसरीन कहती हैं कि इस पृथ्वी पर लड़कियों के ख़िलाफ़ एक यौन-युद्ध चल रहा है; उन स्त्रियों के ख़िलाफ़ जिन्हें इस मानव-प्रजाति को जीवित रखने का श्रेय जाता है; उन महिलाओं के ख़िलाफ़ जिन्होंने सिद्ध कर दिया है कि वे हर उस काम को और ज़्यादा अच्छे ढंग से कर सकती है, जिसे पुरुष अपना काम कहता आया है।

‘स्त्री : समाज और धर्म’ में तसलीमा नसरीन के वे आलेख संकलित हैं जो उन्होंने समय-समय पर उन घटनाओं, ख़बरों और अपने अनुभवों की रोशनी में लिखे हैं जिनके केन्द्र में स्त्री और उसके दुख हैं। मुख्यतः बांग्लादेश, भारत और पाकिस्तान की पृष्ठभूमि में की गई ये टिप्पणियाँ बताती हैं कि सभ्यता चाहे जितना आगे बढ़ी हो, स्त्री को लेकर पुरुष की सोच नाममात्र को ही बदली है। धर्म और समाज के अनेक नियमों, परम्पराओं, आग्रहों और मान्यताओं में उनकी यह सोच झलकती है। पुरुष हिन्दू हो या मुस्लिम या फिर अमेरिकी राष्ट्रपति ट्रम्प, स्त्री सभी के लिए वस्तु है।

तसलीमा नसरीन हमेशा ही असाधारण साहस और साफ़गोई के सा‌थ तीखी भाषा में पुरुष सत्ता को ललकारती रही हैं; इसके लिए वे एकदम सहज और सजीव गद्य की रचना करती हैं, जो हर बार उतना ही प्रभावशाली सिद्ध होता है।
