- Description: "रूस के महान् लेखक लियो टाल्सटॉय 19वीं सदी के एक सम्मानित लेखक थे। युवावस्था में कुछ समय उन्होंने रूसी सेना में नौकरी की और इसी दौरान क्रीमियन युद्ध (1855) में भाग लिया। अगले वर्ष ही उन्होंने नौकरी छोड़ दी और लेखन आरंभ कर दिया, जिसकी नींव उनके बचपन में ही पड़ चुकी थी। उनके उपन्यास ‘वॉर ऐंड पीस’ (1865-69) तथा ‘एना कैरनीना’ (1875-77) विश्व साहित्य की महान् रचनाओं में शामिल हैं। आर्थिक दृष्टि से अति संपन्न और सम्मानित होने के बावजूद वे आंतरिक शांति के लिए तरसते रहे। आखिरकार सन् 1890 में घर-बार और धन-संपत्ति त्यागकर वे गरीबों की सेवा करने लगे और 20 नवंबर, 1910 को कंगाली की हालत में गुमनाम वृद्ध के रूप में मृत्यु को प्राप्त हुए। मानव मन को छूनेवाली सामाजिक समदर्शिता और पारस्परिकता का बोध करानेवाली अगणित पठनीय रचनाओं के महान् लेखक की प्रेरणादायी जीवनी।"

- Description: "महाराणा प्रताप का नाम बहादुर राजाओं की सूची में स्वर्ण अक्षरों में उत्कीर्ण है, जिन्होंने अपने जीवन का बलिदान देकर इस देश के राष्ट्र, धर्म, संस्कृति और स्वतंत्रता की रक्षा की। महाराणा प्रताप के शासनकाल के समय दिल्ली में अकबर मुगल शासक था। उसकी नीति अन्य राजाओं को अपने नियंत्रण में लाने के लिए हिंदू राजाओं की ताकत का उपयोग करना था। कई राजपूत राजाओं ने अपनी गौरवशाली परंपराओं को त्यागते हुए अपनी बेटियों और बहुओं को पुरस्कार व सम्मान पाने के उद्देश्य से अकबर के हरम में भेजा। महाराणा प्रताप की एकमात्र चिंता अपनी मातृभूमि को मुगलों के चंगुल से तुरंत मुक्त करना था। इसलिए उन्होंने घोषणा की कि, ‘मैं शपथ लेता हूँ कि जब तक चित्तौड़ को मुक्त नहीं करा लेता, तब तक सोने-चाँदी की प्लेटों में भोजन नहीं करूँगा, नरम बिस्तर पर नहीं सोऊँगा और महल की बजाय पत्ता-थाली पर खाना खाऊँगा, फर्श पर सोऊँगा और झोंपड़ी में रहूँगा। मैं तब तक दाढ़ी नहीं बनाऊँगा, जब तक चित्तौड़ को मुक्त नहीं कर दिया जाता।’’ 22,000 सैनिकों की महाराणा प्रताप की सेना हल्दीघाट में अकबर के 2,00,000 सैनिकों के सामने आ डटी। उनके वफादार घोड़े चेतक ने भी अपनी जान जोखिम में डालकर अपने स्वामी की जान बचा ली और स्वयं अमर हो गया। महाराणा प्रताप पहाड़ों, जंगलों और घाटियों में भटकते रहे। भामाशाह ने उनकी मदद की। महाराणा प्रताप ने मेवाड़ को बचाने के लिए 12 साल तक संघर्ष किया। उन्होंने बहुत कष्ट झेला, लेकिन आत्मसमर्पण नहीं किया। एक महायोद्धा की अविस्मरणीय गाथा। "
