आज की प्रतियोगितावादी और मशीनी दुनिया में हमारे सामने अनेक नई समस्याएँ और प्रश्न उठ खड़े हुए हैं। इन्हीं में एक प्रमुख प्रश्न हमारी शिक्षा से भी सम्बन्ध रखता है, क्योंकि यही वह औज़ार है जो हमें लगातार असहिष्णु होती दुनिया में बेहतर मनुष्य बनाने में काम आ सकता है। आख़‍िर शिक्षा है क्या? उसका उद्देश्य क्या है? शिक्षा के प्रमुख अंग क्या होने चाहिए? आज के बच्चे, आज की शिक्षा पाने के बाद, किस प्रकार के नागरिक बनेंगे?

पुस्तक के लेखक का मानना है कि हम कला और उद्योग को शिक्षा-पद्धति का केन्द्र बनाएँ, क्योंकि वह हमारे समाज को सन्तुलित करने का काम कर सकती है। देवी प्रसाद का यह विचार उनकी उस आन्तरिक समझ से सम्बन्ध रखता है जो तथाकथित आधुनिकता के विकास से जुड़ी हुई है। वे कहते हैं कि व्यक्ति की सृजनात्मकता का ख़ात्मा आज की शिक्षा-व्यवस्था के द्वारा हुआ है जिसने हमें अत्यन्त भयानक और अवसरवादी अवस्था में डाल दिया है।

हमारे समाज में निचले तबक़े के लोगों के लिए कुछ भी ऐसा बाक़ी नहीं रहता जिसकी कोई अहमियत हो। यह इसलिए क्योंकि निर्णय वे लेते हैं जो समाज के ‘पिरामिड’ की चोटी पर विराजमान हैं। इसलिए यह पुस्तक उस पिरामिड को सीधा करने की कोशिश करती है। यह आधुनिकता की व्याख्या को भी बदलने का प्रयास करती है।

यह कहना यथेष्ट होगा कि यह पुस्तक उन लोगों के लिए है जो हमारे पूरे संसार की चिन्ता करते हैं, केवल शिक्षा-व्यवस्था की नहीं। यह एक ऐसे व्यक्ति के लम्बे अनुभव और विचारों को दर्शाती है जो शान्तिवाद की मुहिम में प्रत्यक्ष रूप से लगा हुआ था।

विद्यापति 'राज काज समाज' इस दृष्टि से अनोखी पुस्तक है कि इसमें विद्यापति की भक्ति-शृंगार वाली रूढ़ छवि के समानांतर सामाजिक-सांस्कृतिक सरोकार संपन्न कवि के रूप में उनकी पहचान की गई है। विद्यापति की पदावली का अध्ययन उनकी अन्य महत्त्वपूर्ण वैचारिक रचनाओं के साथ मिलाकर की गई है जिसके परिणाम स्वरूप पदावली की नई अर्थ छटाओं से हमारा साक्षात्कार होता है। कीर्तिलता, पुरुष-परीक्षा और लखनावाली जैसी गंभीर विचार-प्रधान रचनाओं के कारण विद्यापति तमाम मध्यकालीन भक्त कवियों से अलहदा नजर आते हैं क्योंकि मध्यकाल के सभी भक्त केवल कवि हैं लेकिन विद्यापति कवि के साथ इतिहासकार, राजनीतिवेत्ता, संस्कृति-चिंतक तथा शिक्षाविद भी नजर आते हैं। ज्ञान के इस विस्तार ने उनकी कविता को अधिक गहरी और व्यापक जमीन प्रदान की है। हिंदी भक्ति आंदोलन के अग्रदूत विद्यापति की भक्ति कविता में वैष्णव (अलवार) और शैवभक्ति (नयनार) का समन्वित रूप देखने को मिलती है। विद्यापति ने मानव जीवन की श्रेष्ठता को प्रतिष्ठित करते हुए कहा है कि 'मानुस जीवन अनूप'। उनकी कविता में न तो कहीं स्त्री-निंदा है न ही वर्ण-विरोध। इस दृष्टि से विद्यापति समतापरक समाज की कल्पना करने वाले विलक्षण मध्यकालीन कवि के रूप में हमारे सामने उपस्थित होते हैं। विद्यापति की पदावली में शृंगार-भक्ति के अतिरिक्त स्त्री-प्रेम और प्रेम के क्षेत्र में स्त्री-साहस अद्ïभुत रूप से प्रकट हुआ है। सामंती समाज में प्रेम की पाबंदी के सख्त खिलाफ हैं—विद्यापति; वे कहते हैं 'परबस जनु हो हमार पियार'। यह पुस्तक पाठकों को एक 'नए विद्यापति' से परिचय कराने में सक्षम साबित होगी।

Yogendra Singh Yadav was born on May 10, 1980 in the Ahir village of Aurangabad in Bulandshahr district of Uttar Pradesh. Rank—Grenadier, Retired as Honorary Captain Unit—18 Grenadiers War—Kargil War (Operation Vijay – 1999) Award—ParamVir Chakra Recognition—five months old when he joined the Indian Army. He became the youngest 'ParamVir Chakra' awardee at the age of 19 years. The entire world will always remember the exemplary valour displayed by the Indian soldiers in the Kargil war. Grenadier Yogendra Singh Yadav not only defeated the enemy but also dodged death in this war. At the time of receiving the ParamVir Chakra award he was only 19 years of age. He is the youngest soldier to have received the ParamVir Chakra.

Kasturba Gandhi (née Kapadia) was born on April 11, 1869, at Porbandar, Gujrat. She married Gandhiji at the tender age of thirteen. A popular adage says that there is a woman behind every successful man. This statement appears to be literally true when it comes to Kasturba who adopted all the edicts, rights or wrongs of Gandhiji and played a vital role in transforming Gandhi into Mahatma Gandhi. She walked shoulder to shoulder with him in jails and during the racial discrimination movement in South Africa. Her popularity was humongous, and Gandhiji once said, “Those people who came into close contact with me and Ba, many among them had more faith in Ba than in me.” Ba breathed her last on February 22, 1944, in a prison.
