- Description: "सन् 1890-92 के कालखंड में छोटा नागपुर के अधिकतर वनवासी चर्च के पादरियों के बहकावे में आकर ईसाई बन गए थे। बिरसा मुंडा का परिवार भी इनमें शामिल था, परंतु शीघ्र ही पादरियों की असलियत भाँपकर बिरसा न केवल ईसाई मत त्यागकर हिंदू धर्म में लौट आए, वरन् उन्होंने उस क्षेत्र के अन्य वनवासियों की हिंदू धर्म में वापसी कराई। यही बिरसा मुंडा आगे चलकर एक महान् क्रांतिकारी तथा ‘धरती-आबा’ (जगत्-पिता) के नाम से विख्यात हुए। बिरसा मुंडा ने अपने समाज के लोगों को पवित्र जीवन की शिक्षा दी। देश को स्वतंत्र कराने के प्रयास में अत्याचारी अंग्रेजों के विरुद्ध अपने समाज के लोगों में क्रांति-ज्वाला धधकाई। आखिर घबराकर अंग्रेज सरकार ने छल-कपट का सहारा लिया। उसने बिरसा को पकड़वाने पर 500 रुपए के इनाम की घोषणा की। अनेक मुंडा सरदारों पर भी इनाम घोषित कर दिए गए। आखिरकार विश्वासघातियों की मुखबिरी से रात में सोते समय बिरसा को बंदी बना लिया गया। जीवित रहते हुए बिरसा मुंडा ने अपने शौर्यपूर्ण कार्यों से अंग्रेज सरकार की नींद उड़ा दी थी, मृत्यु के बाद भी वह उसके लिए भय का कारण बने रहे। इसलिए सुवर्ण रेखा नदी के घाट पर बिरसा का शव जेल-कर्मचारियों द्वारा कंडों की आग में गुपचुप तरीके से जला दिया गया। इसकी किसी को भनक तक नहीं लगी। प्रस्तुत है एक आदिवासी क्रांतिकारी, देशप्रेमी, समाज-उद्धारक बिरसा मुंडा की पठनीय एवं प्रेरणादायी जीवनी।

It is an important document for understanding the circumstances and facts during Partition. Only the lot of the refugees is unenviable. The glow of freedom is certainly not found on their faces. They have lost their everything; their homes and hearths, their kith and kin, their properties, moveable and immovable, their religious shrines and sacred places hallowed by the blood of their martyrs and their accustomed ways of life and living. With their scanty resources dwindling fast, with the snail-like pace of rehabilitation and with the blasted career of their children staring them in the face, they are living in the daily dread of worse and worse things to come. The objective of writing this book is to rouse the conscience of the country, giving it a glimpse of the hell which the prosperous and proud people of North-West Pakistan had to suffer in those critical days and to appeal to the leaders to learn from their past mistakes and take determined and suitable measures in hand to undo the evil effects of the greatest ‘wrong’ of history.

- Description: हम इस बात की कल्पना भी नहीं कर सकते कि किसी दिन इस धरती पर केवल मानव जाति का अस्तित्व होगा। पशु–पक्षियों व अन्य जीवधारियों की असंख्य प्रजातियों और वनस्पतियों की अगणित क़िस्मों के अभाव में क्या इस सृष्टि में जीवन को बचाए रखना सम्भव होगा। सच्चाई तो यह है कि सृष्टि एक अखंड इकाई है। चराचर की पारस्परिक निर्भरता ही जीवन का मूल मंत्र है। यदि किसी कारण से जीवन–चक्र खंडित होता है तो इसके भीषण परिणाम हो सकते हैं। ‘भारत के संकटग्रस्त वन्य प्राणी’ में प्रसिद्ध लेखक गुणाकर मुळे ने ऐसे प्राणियों की चर्चा की है जो विलुप्त होने की कगार पर हैं। उन्होंने अनेक ऐसे प्राणियों का ज़िक्र किया है जिन्हें अब इस धरती पर कभी नहीं देखा जा सकता। विगत दशकों में 36 प्रजातियों के स्तनपायी प्राणी और 94 नस्लों के पक्षी प्रकृति के अंधाधुंध शोषण के कारण नष्ट हो चुके हैं। लेखक की चिन्ता यह है कि यदि इसी प्रकार हिंसा, लालच और अतिक्रमण का दौर चलता रहा तो इस ख़ूबसूरत दुनिया का क्या होगा! यह असन्तुलन विनाशकारी होगा। लेखक के अनुसार, ‘हमारे देश में प्राचीन काल से वन्य प्राणियों के संरक्षण की भावना रही है। हमारी सभ्यता और संस्कृति में वन्य प्राणियों के प्रति प्रेम-भाव रहा है। इसलिए हमारे समाज में वन्य जीवों को पूज्य माना जाता है। वन्य जीवों तथा पक्षियों को मुद्राओं और भवनों पर भी चित्रित किया जाता रहा है।’ हमें आज इस भाव को नए सन्दर्भों में विकसित करना होगा। वन्य प्राणी संरक्षण के लिए बनाए गए अधिनियमों से अधिक आवश्यकता व्यापक नागरिक चेतना की है। गुणाकर मुळे ने सहज, सरल भाषा में इस आवश्यकता को रेखांकित किया है। अनेक चित्रों से सुसज्जित यह पुस्तक पर्यावरण के प्रति जागरूकता निर्माण के लिए बहुत ही उपयोगी है। हर आयु के पाठकों के लिए एक पठनीय पुस्तक।
