- Description: ‘जूठी गली’ जीवनानुभव का एक ऐसा लोक है जिसके भीतर वर्तमान की आँधी में इतिहास की धूल और राख उड़ती रहती है। जब अठारहवीं सदी के आरम्भ में पटना का नाम अज़ीमाबाद हुआ, उन्हीं दिनों जूठी गली की नींव पड़ी थी। उन दिनों से अब तक यह गली ज़िन्दा है। लोग जनमते और विदा होते रहे, मकान बिकते-ढहते-बनते रहे, जूठी गली अपना रूप बदलती रही और किसी ज़िन्दा इनसान की तरह धड़कती रही। इसके बाशिन्दे ख़बरों के रसिया हैं। ख़बरें इस गली में हवा के पर लगाकर उड़ती हैं। जन्म और मृत्यु दोनों के लिए यहाँ समान भाव से सुख-दुःख उपजता है। प्रेम और नफ़रत एक ही बटुए में रखकर लोग आपस में मिलते-जुलते हैं। जो ज़ुबान प्रशंसा करते नहीं थकती वह पीठ फेरते ही निन्दा रस उड़ेलने लगती है। इस गली में मध्यवर्गीय प्रपंचों के कीचड़ में लिथड़कर जीती स्त्रियों के साथ ऐसी स्त्रियाँ भी हैं जो पुरुषों के वर्चस्व को चुनौती देती हैं और परिदृश्य बदल जाता है। राजनीति ने अपने नाख़ूनों के खरोचों से जूठी गली को जो घाव दिए हैं, लोग उन्हें सहलाते हुए जीते हैं। इस गली में जाति-दंश की ज़हरीली हवा बहती है। प्रेम करनेवाले यहाँ सम्मान नहीं, हँसी के पात्र हैं। हृषीकेश सुलभ अपनी रचनाओं में स्वयं नहीं बोलते बल्कि उनके पात्रों का जीवन-व्यापार और परिवेश कथ्य को सघनता से प्रकट करता है। अपनी सहज भाषा की मार्मिकता और आत्मीय कहन के हुनर के सहारे वे कथा के बीहड़ में उतरते हैं और जीवन के ऐसे क्षणों को रचते हैं जो मानवीय गरिमा की रक्षा करते हैं। जूठी गली हमारे समय का जीवन्त दस्तावेज़ है।
