30 दिसंबर, 1879 को सोमवार के दिन आधी रात के लगभग एक घंटे बाद एक जाने-माने प्राचीन ब्राह्मण कुल में जन्म हुआ उस अद्भुत बालक का, जिसे बाद में पूरी दुनिया ने भगवान् श्री रमण महर्षि के नाम से जाना।
उन्होंने साधारण जनों को रास्ता बताया कि मानव को उसके दैनिक कार्यों को करते हुए किस प्रकार उस परम तत्त्व की वंदना करनी है, कैसे आत्मा की शुद्धि करके जन्म-मरण के चक्करों से पार पाना है। यदि हम अपने दायित्वों का निर्वाह ही नहीं कर सकते तो हमें इस पृथ्वी पर मानव बनकर रहने का क्या अधिकार है! इस जगत् में ज्ञान की वास्तविक परिभाषा, जीवन की गहराइयाँ महर्षि रमण जैसे ज्ञानी पुरुषों ने ही हमें समझाई है।
