गंगा के किनारे बसा बेलूर मठ अब भी अपने परमहंसी स्वरूप में है। रामकृष्ण का कमरा, उनकी चारपाई सबकुछ वैसा ही है जैसा कभी था। नहीं है तो रामकृष्ण की वह देह, जिसके जरिए उन्होंने अध्यात्म के अनेक अभ्यास किए और संसार को प्रायोगिक भक्ति की प्रामाणिकता से अवगत कराया।
परमहंस के पहले और बाद में भक्ति सिर्फ याचक की याचना से ज्यादा नहीं रही; लेकिन रामकृष्ण ने भक्ति के शाब्दिक कायांतरण के प्रमाण उजागर किए। भक्ति के उनके प्रयोगों की दुनिया शब्द, अर्थ, ध्वनि के आकाशों से घिरी हुई दुनिया है, जिसकी शुरुआत रामकृष्ण स्कूली जीवन में ही कर चुके थे।
भक्ति एक भाव है, स्थिति है, इसलिए उसमें गणित नहीं होता। होता है तो सिर्फ भरोसा और विश्वास। रामकृष्ण अपने स्कूली जीवन में गणित में कमजोर थे, पर उस समय भी वे धार्मिक या धर्म पर बोलनेवाले संतों, महात्माओं को सुनते और अपने दोस्तों को ठीक वैसा ही सुनाकर चकित कर देते। उन्हें रास आता था सिर्फ अध्यात्म का रास्ता।
