बाघ हमारा राष्ट्रीय पशु है। इस पर अनेक आलेख और पुस्तकें प्रकाशित हैं। इस तथ्य से लोग अवगत भी हैं, पर कितनों को पता है कि 9 जुलाई, 1969 के पहले तक हमारा राष्ट्रीय पशु सिंह था? इसी तरह दिल्ली को छोड़कर सभी राज्यों ने किसी न किसी वन्यजीव को अपना राज्य-पशु घोषित कर रखा है, इसकी जानकारी भी बहुत कम लोगों को है।
