- Description: सुभाषचंद्र बोस की ‘भारत की खोज’, जवाहरलाल नेहरू की तुलना में उनके जीवन में काफी पहले ही हो गई, यानी उन दिनों वे अपनी किशोरावस्था में ही थे। वर्ष 1912 में पंद्रह वर्षीय सुभाष ने अपनी माँ से पूछा था, ‘स्वार्थ के इस युग में भारत माता के कितने निस्स्वार्थ सपूत हैं, जो अपने निजी स्वार्थ को त्याग कर इस आंदोलन में हिस्सा ले सकते हैं? माँ, क्या तुम्हारा यह बेटा अभी तैयार है?’’ 1921 में भारतीय सिविल सेवा से त्यागपत्र देकर वह आजादी की लड़ाई में कूदने ही वाले थे कि उन्होंने अपने बड़े भाई शरत को पत्र लिखा, ‘‘केवल बलिदान और कष्ट की भूमि पर ही हम अपने राष्ट्र का निर्माण कर सकते हैं।’’ दिसंबर 1937 में बोस ने अपनी आत्मकथा के दस अध्याय लिखे, जिसमें 1921 तक की अपनी जीवन का वर्णन किया था और ‘माई फेथ-फिलॉसोफिकल’ शीर्षक का एक चिंतनशील अध्याय भी था। सदैव ऐसा नहीं होता कि जीवन के बाद के समय में लिखे संस्मरणों को शुरुआती, बचपन के दिनों की प्राथमिक स्रोत की सामग्री के साथ पढ़ा जाए। बोस के बचपन, किशोरावस्था व युवावस्था के दिनों के सत्तर पत्रों का एक आकर्षक संग्रह इस आत्मकथा को समृद्ध बनाता है। इस प्रकार यह ऐसी सामग्री उपलब्ध कराता है, जिसकी सहायता से उन धार्मिक, सांस्कृतिक, नैतिक, बौद्धिक तथा राजनीतिक प्रभावों का अध्ययन किया जा सकता है, जिनसे भारत के इस सर्वप्रथम क्रांतिधर्मी राष्ट्रवादी के चरित्र और व्यक्तित्व का निर्माण हुआ।

In response to the rather partisan policies of Mughal emperors, a number of personalities came forward in different parts of Hindustan, to lead people in resisting the tyranny. Though the geographical dispersion precluded any visible unified approach, they were indirectly benefitted by each other. When Aurangzeb got cowed down in Rajputana against the unified resistance of Marwar and Mewar, it provided much needed succour to the great Shivaji and Guru Govind Singh to regroup and consolidate forces in their respective areas. The credit for tying down the Mughals for the longest period in history goes to the Marathas; this also acted as a lifeline to the Sikhs, Rajputs, Bundelas and Jats. Rajputs and Sikhs repaid their debt to Marathas by keeping the Mughals, post Aurangzeb, completely embroiled in Punjab and Rajputana, and indirectly paving the way for an almost unchallenged rise of the Marathas. The prolonged resistance witnessed the supreme sacrifices of numerous unsung heroes of medieval history. Through unmatched grit and determination, they succeeded in bringing down the mighty Empire to its knees, eventually leading to its demise.

भारत का राष्ट्रीय वृक्ष बरगद है। यह ओड़िसा का राज्य वृक्ष भी है। लगभग ऐसी ही स्थिति पीपल और हुलुंग की है। पीपल को बिहार और हरियाणा दोनों ने अपना राज्य वृक्ष घोषित किया है। हुलुंग विश्व-भर में होलांग के नाम से प्रसिद्ध है। हुलुंग को अरुणाचल प्रदेश और असम दोनों ने अपना राज्य वृक्ष माना है।
प्रत्येक वृक्ष के परिचय में वृक्ष का हिन्दी नाम, अंग्रेज़ी नाम और वैज्ञानिक नाम दिया गया है।
पुस्तक का उद्देश्य वृक्षों से सम्बन्धित भ्रामक धारणाओं का खंडन करते हुए वैज्ञानिक जानकारियाँ प्रदान करना और इनके महत्त्व एवं उपयोग से परिचित कराना है।
