Unable to call a single district of Punjab as their home. Can there be a single instance cited, where a strong and large religious community like the Sikhs lost the Holiest of its places to others? This book is a faithful account of day-to-day occurrences in Lahore and other parts of Punjab during the critical period of 1947 when the fate of India was being decided by its leaders and at a time when Punjabi Sikhs and Hindus underwent untold miseries and hardship. This book should be treated more as a souvenir of Partition than as a treatise on history. This book is being reproduced without any editing or changes. It is an important document for understanding the circumstances and facts during Partition. Only the lot of the refugees is unenviable. The glow of freedom is certainly not found on their faces. They have lost their everything; their homes and hearths, their kith and kin, their properties, moveable and immovable, their religious shrines and sacred places hallowed by the blood of their martyrs and their accustomed ways of life and living. With their scanty resources dwindling fast, with the snail-like pace of rehabilitation and with the blasted career of their children staring them in the face, they are living in the daily dread of worse and worse things to come. The objective of writing this book is to rouse the conscience of the country, giving it a glimpse of the hell which the prosperous and proud people of North-West Pakistan had to suffer in those critical days and to appeal to the leaders to learn from their past mistakes and take determined and suitable measures in hand to undo the evil effects of the greatest ‘wrong’ of history.

- Description: झारखंड के रचनाकार शुरू से ही शिक्षा, साहित्य, समाज और राजनीति में उपेक्षित रहे हैं। मुंडारी के प्रथम लेखक-उपन्यासकार मेनस ओड़ेया हों, हिंदी की पहली आदिवासी कवयित्री और संपादक सुशीला सामद हों या नागपुरी के धनीराम बक्शी, ऐसे सभी झारखंडी-लेखकों और साहित्य साधकों का जीवन और कृतित्व अलिखित दुनिया के अँधेरे में समाया हुआ है। रघुनाथ मुर्मू, प्यारा केरकेट्टा, लको बोदरा पर हिंदी में एकाध पुस्तकें प्रकाशित हुई हैं, लेकिन फादर पीटर शांति नवरंगी के व्यक्तित्व और कृतित्व पर जिस तरह का महत्त्वपूर्ण शोध और उसका प्रकाशन हुआ है, अन्य झारखंडी लेखकों-साहित्यकारों पर नहीं हो सका है। झारखंड के राँची, धनबाद और जमशेदपुर से विपुल मात्रा में पत्र-पत्रिकाएँ प्रकाशित होती रही हैं, परंतु इन पत्र-पत्रिकाओं में झारखंडी रचनाकारों के साक्षात्कारों के लिए जगह नहीं होती। झारखंड अलग राज्य बनने के बाद भी इस स्थिति में कोई मूलभूत बदलाव नहीं आया है। इस पुस्तक में उन पुरखा साहित्यकारों के परिचय व साक्षात्कारों को संकलित किया गया है, जिन्होंने हिंदी और अपनी आदिवासी एवं देशज मातृभाषाओं में झारखंडी साहित्य को विकसित और समृद्ध किया है। इसका उद्देश्य झारखंडी साहित्य के इतिहास में रुचि रखनेवालों को आधारभूत जानकारी उपलब्ध कराना है, ताकि विश्व साहित्य-जगत् हमारे पुरखा रचनाकारों और समकालीन झारखंडी लेखकों के चिंतन और रचनाकर्म से परिचित हो सके।
