- Description: (आधुनिक हिन्दी कविता के) तृतीय उत्थान में आकर परिस्थिति बहुत बदल गई । आन्दोलनों ने सक्रिय रूप धारण किया और गाँव–गाँव राजनीतिक और आर्थिक परतन्त्रता के विरो/ा की भावना जगाई गई । सरकार से कुछ माँगने के स्थान पर अब कवियों की वाणी देशवासियों को ही ‘स्वतन्त्रता देवी की वेदी पर बलिदान’ होने को प्रोत्साहित करने में लगी । अब जो आन्दोलन चले वे सामान्य जन–समुदाय को भी साथ लेकर चले ।––– अब संसार के प्राय% सारे सभ्य भाग एक–दूसरे के लिए खुले हुए हैं । इससे एक भू–खंड में उठी हवाएँ दूसरे भू–खंड में शिक्षित वर्गों तक तो अवश्य ही पहुँच जाती हैं । यदि उनका सामंजस्य दूसरे भू–खंड की परिस्थिति के साथ हो जाता है तो उस परिस्थिति के अनुरूप शक्तिशाली आन्दोलन चल पड़ते हैं । इसी नियम के अनुसार शोषक साम्राज्यवाद के विरुद्ध राजनीतिक आन्दोलन के अतिरिक्त यहाँ भी किसान–आन्दोलन, मजदूर–आन्दोलन, अछूत–आन्दोलन इत्यादि कई आन्दोलन एक विराट् परिवर्तनवाद के नाना व्यावहारिक अंगों के रूप में चले । श्री रामधारी सिंह दिनकर, बालकृष्ण शर्मा ‘नवीन’, माखनलाल चतुर्वेदी आदि कई कवियों की वाणी द्वारा ये भिन्न–भिन्न प्रकार के आन्दोलन प्रति/वनित हुए ।

एक आलोचक के रूप में अज्ञेय की स्थापनाओं ने पिछली लगभग पूरी शताब्दी को आन्दोलित किया है। वे अपने समय के अधीत, पश्चिम-पूर्व के लेखन से सुपरिचित लेखकों में थे। उन्होंने विश्व-वैचारिकी को अपने अध्ययन और चिन्तन में ढाला था और उसे भारतीय समाज और साहित्य के परिप्रेक्ष्य में देखा-परखा था। वैश्विक लेखन से सघन रिश्ते के बावजूद उनके लेखे ‘आधुनिकता’ का अर्थ ‘परम्परा’ से मुँह मोड़ना नहीं था। वे यदि अपने चिन्तन की पुष्टि में विदेशी लेखकों को याद करते हैं तो जगह-ब-जगह संस्कृत कवियों और आचार्यों के मतों को भी उतने ही सम्मान से उद्धृत करते हैं। उनकी आलोचना वस्तुतः एक ‘सुविचारित वार्ता’ (थॉटफुल टॉक) है। राजसत्ता और लेखक, राजनीति और साहित्य, परम्परा और आधुनिकता जैसे तमाम मुद्दों पर हिन्दी में बहसें शुरू करने का श्रेय अज्ञेय को ही जाता है। उनकी आलोचना पश्चिम की आलोचना से तुलनीय तो है, मुखापेक्षी नहीं। उन्होंने आलोचना को तार्किक संगति दी और भाषा-संवेदना को नया परिप्रेक्ष्य। कितने ही नए शब्द, नए बिम्ब दिए। प्रतीक, काल और मिथक पर नव्य दृष्टि दी।
अज्ञेय ने आलोचना और चिन्तन को साहित्य के समग्र स्वरूप के अन्वीक्षण के माध्यम के रूप में देखा है। वे आलोचक का एक बड़ा वृत्त बनाते हैं जिसके भीतर उनका कवि-आलोचक-चिन्तक सभ्यता, संस्कृति, सौन्दर्यबोध, भारतीयता, आधुनिकता, स्वातंत्र्य, यथार्थ, रूढ़ि और मौलिकता, सम्प्रेषण और सामाजिक प्रतिबद्धता के साथ-साथ काल के निस्सीम व्योम की परिक्रमा करता है। अपनी अवधारणाओं में अविचल, सोच में साफ़ और निर्मल, विरोधों की आँधी में भी निष्कम्प दीये-सी प्रज्ज्वलित अज्ञेय की कवि-छवि जितनी बाँकी और अवेध्य है, उतनी ही सुन्दर वीथियाँ उनके गद्य के अनवगाहित संसार में दृष्टिगत होती हैं।
अज्ञेय की आलोचना का स्वरूप क्लासिक है। वह उच्चादर्शों का अनुसरण करती है और जीवन व साहित्य को समग्रता और समन्विति में देखती है।

- Description: "विश्व के सर्वोच्च पर्वत शिखर पर सबसे पहले कदम रखनेवाले सर एडमंड हिलेरी के अंदर इस साहसिक कार्य का जज्बा कूटकूटकर भरा था, लेकिन इस उपलब्धि को हासिल करने के बाद भी उनका स्वभाव बहुत सहज और सरल रहा। सर एडमंड हिलेरी ने 29 मई, 1953 को केवल 33 साल की आयु में नेपाल के पर्वतारोही शेरपा तेनजिंग नार्गे के साथ माउंट एवरेस्ट पर पहली बार कदम रखा था। न्यूजीलैंड में 20 जुलाई, 1919 को जनमे सर हिलेरी को स्कूल के दिनों से ही पर्वतारोहण का शौक था। उन्होंने एवरेस्ट यात्रा के बाद हिमालय ट्रस्ट के माध्यम से नेपाल के शेरपा लोगों के लिए कई सहायताकार्य भी किए। उन्होंने 1956, 1960, 1961, 1963 और 1965 में भी हिमालय की अन्य चोटियों पर पर्वतारोहण किया था। भारत सरकार ने उन्हें ‘पद्म विभूषण’ से सम्मानित किया था। 1985 में हिलेरी को भारत में न्यूजीलैंड का उच्चायुक्त नियुक्त किया गया था। वे बँगलादेश में न्यूजीलैंड के उच्चायुक्त और नेपाल में राजदूत भी रहे। नेपाल सहित कई अन्य देशों ने भी उन्हें अपने राष्ट्रीय सम्मानों से विभूषित किया। इस पुस्तक में सर एडमंड हिलेरी की रोमांचक जीवनकथा का वर्णन है, जो रोमांचक तो है ही, साथ ही उत्साहितप्रोत्साहित करनेवाली है।"
