गजानन माधव मुक्तिबोध की जन्म-शती के दौरान उनके उद्धरणों का यह संचयन विशेष रूप से तैयार और प्रकाशित किया जा रहा है। छोटी कविताओं के समय में मुक्तिबोध लम्बी कविताएँ लिखने का जोखिम उठाते रहे और उनकी आलोचना और चिन्तन लीक से हटकर जटिल थे। इसने उन्हें एक कठिन लेखक के रूप में विख्यात कर दिया। उनके अत्यन्त सार्थक, जटिल साहित्य-संसार में प्रवेश के लिए उद्धरणों का यह संचयन मददगार होगा, इस उम्मीद से ही इसे विन्यस्त किया गया है। इससे पाठकों को मुक्तिबोध के संसार में और गहरे जाने का उत्साह होगा।
मुक्तिबोध रज़ा के प्रिय कवियों में से एक थे। उनकी एक पंक्ति 'इस तम-शून्य में तैरती है जगत् समीक्षा' का उन्होंने अपने कई चित्रों में इस्तेमाल किया था। मुक्तिबोध अकेले हिन्दी कवि हैं जिन्हें प्रसिद्ध प्रोग्रेसिव आर्टिस्ट ग्रुप के कम से कम तीन बड़े चित्रकारों ने पसन्द किया। रामकुमार ने रोग-शय्या पर लेटे हुए मुक्तिबोध के कई रेखाचित्र बनाए थे जो उनके पहले कविता-संग्रह 'चाँद का मुँह टेढ़ा है' में प्रकाशित हुए थे। मक़बूल फ़िदा हुसेन ने जूते न पहनने का निर्णय मुक्तिबोध की शवयात्रा के दौरान लिया था। रज़ा उनकी कविता को हमेशा याद करते रहे।
यह संचयन एक शृंखला की शुरुआत भी है। आगे अज्ञेय, शमशेर बहादुर सिंह, रघुवीर सहाय, निर्मल वर्मा आदि के उद्धरणों के संचयन प्रकाशित करने का इरादा है।

भारत के सन्दर्भ में इस पुस्तक के तर्क और भी ज़्यादा सटीक कहे जा सकते हैं।
