एक बार फिर उसने चारों ओर दृष्टि घुमाकर देखा, यह बहुत हर्षदायक नजारा नहीं था। चारों ओर एक धुँधली आकाशरेखा था। सारे पहाड़ नीचे थे। कहीं पर भी कोई पेड़, झाड़ी या घास नहीं दिख रही थी। यहाँ तो केवल विशाल और भयंकर अकेलापन था, जिससे उसके अंदर एक भय की लहर सी दौड़ गई थी। वह दुधिया पानी में थोड़ा झुक गया, जैसे कि वह विशाल जलधारा उसके ऊपर ही चढ़ी आ रही थी और उसको निर्दयता से कुचले दे रही थी, उसकी सुषुप्ति से। वह बहुत जोर-जोर से हिलने लगा, जैसे उसको दौरा आ गया हो और उसकी बंदूक हाथ से छूटकर गिर पड़ी। वह अपने भय से लड़ा, अपने को सीधा किया तथा पानी में अपनी बंदूक खोजने लगा और फिर उसे पुनः वापस पा लिया। उसने अपने बैकपैक को बाएँ कंधे की ओर कर लिया, जिससे उसके घायल टखने को कुछ आराम मिल सके। फिर वह धीरे-धीरे दर्द से सिकुड़ते हुए आगे तट की ओर बढ़ने लगा। —इसी पुस्तक से जैक लंडन ने बहुत सारे साहसिक अभियान किए, जिससे नदी, पहाड़, जंगल और जंगल के जीवों ने उनकी कहानियों में प्रमुखता से स्थान बना लिया। उनकी ये कहानियाँ साहस और रोमांच से भरपूर हैं, जो पाठकों को रोमांचित कर देती हैं।

Oral epics in any Indian language are generally associated with certain specific communities, defined by their traditional occupations; and the present oral epic Koti Channaya belongs to the Billava community. This poetic narrative, which records the life and adventures of the two cultural heroes of the Billava community, their yearning for cultivable land, their brave opposition to the established powerful classes, and their tragic end, is sung by the members of the particular communities called Pambada and Parava of coastal Karnataka, during the annual worship of the twin heroes. The oral epic, Koti Chennaya unravels the world of Billava community (traditionally toddy-tappers) of coastal Karnataka recording in the process the life and adventures as also the travails and tribulations of the two cultural heroes of Billava community. Most of the oral epics begin with a 'Creation Myth', which begins with the creation of the entire universe step by step, thus focuses on the legendary first parents/ancestors of the community concerned. Such a myth, besides glorifying the cultural heroes of the epic, gives a privileged position to the community by linking it with the rest of the world and gives it a socio-cultural identity. Koti Channaya also begins with a 'Creation Myth'. A recent study undertaken by UNESCO says that half of the 6,700 languages spoken in the world at present face the danger of extinction before the end of this century.

When I met Shri Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of India on the 26th of March 2015, my enthusiasm for music was at its lowest ebb. During our conversation, Modiji was intrigued by my dream project, 'Sangeet Gram', an academy in the memory of Ustad Bismillah Khan. But, I was surprised to find that he shared this dream with me, having himself built a museum to preserve the endangered instruments of India. The following year arrived and I began preparations for Ustad Bismillah Khan's centennial celebrations, including the construction of Sangeet Gram. It was then that I received the honour of being inducted into the National Implementation Committee for Centenary Celebrations and my efforts now extend to holding celebration concerts in India and abroad. I had already been writing an account of Baba's life; the priceless anecdotes that he had shared and the surreal moments that we had spent together. In order to commemorate his musical genius and celebrate 100 years of his unparalleled contribution to music in this field, I deemed it fit to publish it all in book form. I hope this book provides its readers with an insight into Baba's life, and that they too celebrate his simplicity, his undying perseverance and patience with his art, the genius of his music and my musical journey, through this book-'Baba & Me'.
