A Journey through Consciousness It is such a pleasure to open a book and be met with an excellent writing: a mellifluous flow of deeply-considered thoughts and fine expression. That is the experience of reading Suryansh Shekhar's ""Towards the Sound"". He brings a remarkable youthful vigor to a world of deep intellect. Who we are, who we think we are and how are these identities constructed? In today's matter-of-fact world most people live in thoughtless oblivion, not searching for such knowledge. The author takes us into a world of nuanced understanding, through logical and brilliant journeys into essential truths. This is a delightful must-read book for every sensitive person who likes to examine his travel through life. The author presents a handbook of understanding oneself and one's interactions with the world. He offers a path to freedom, leaving behind the chains of our previous conditioning. Finally, I must say that the entire journey of the book, through the many caverns of the mind, is shared through a clearly and wonderfully-written prose.

मनोविज्ञान मानव-समस्याओं के सम्यक् ज्ञान एवं समाधान के लिए समुचित दृष्टिकोण उपस्थित करता है। व्यक्ति में समुचित दृष्टिकोण का विकास हो, इसके लिए यह अनिवार्य है कि उसे मानव-जीवन-सम्बन्धी तथ्यों एवं सामान्य सिद्धान्तों का ज्ञान हो तथा वह इनकी खोज की विधियों से भलीभाँति परिचित हो। समुचित दृष्टिकोण का तात्पर्य है व्यक्ति की अवैयक्तिक (Impersonal) एवं वस्तुनिष्ठ (Objective) मनोवृत्ति। ऐसी मनोवृत्ति अपनाकर ही मनोवैज्ञानिक मानव-समस्याओं की खोज करता है। फलतः वह असामान्य व्यक्तियों (Abnormal individuals) को परामर्श, सहायता अथवा चिकित्सा का पात्र समझता है, न कि घृणा का। चोरी, हत्या जैसे असामाजिक कार्यों में संलग्न अपराधियों के प्रति भी वह घृणा के बदले सहानुभूति की मनोवृत्ति रखता है। इसी भाँति प्रतिदिन के जीवन में घटित होनेवाले सभी व्यवहारों के प्रति भी, चाहे वे वांछनीय हों अथवा अवांछनीय, अवैयक्तिक एवं वस्तुनिष्ठ मनोवृत्ति अपनाकर ही विचार करता है।

सामान्यतः दो व्यक्तियों या परिवारों के बीच लिखे गए पत्र उनके निजी अख़बार होते हैं और साहित्यकारों के पत्र उनके जीवन एवं साहित्य के अन्तर्तम तक पहुँचने के चोर दरवाज़े। इस संग्रह में (सन् 1951 से 1969 तक) अठारह सालों के बीच मोहन राकेश और उपेंद्रनाथ ‘अश्क’ एवं श्रीमती कौशल्या ‘अश्क’ द्वारा एक-दूसरे को लिखे गए लगभग सवा चार सौ पत्रों में से चुने हुए पत्र प्रस्तुत किए गए हैं। मोहन राकेश और उपेंद्रनाथ अश्क का व्यक्तित्व अपने बहुस्तरीय जटिल सम्बन्धों के कारण काफ़ी दिलचस्प और कुतूहल-भरा रहा है। उनके इन तमाम खतों में अश्क और राकेश के ख़ून की गर्मी, दिल की धड़कन, दिमाग़ी उथल-पुथल, बेताबी, बेसब्री, जद्दोजहद, हँसी-ख़ुशी, दुःख-दर्द, भाव-अभाव और आत्मीयता-अन्तरंगता के न मालूम कितने रंग बिखरे हुए मिलेंगे। उनके सम्मोहक व्यक्तित्व की तीखी-भीनी महक का भी अहसास होगा। हिन्दी साहित्य के जाने-माने मुँहफट अश्क और बेबाक राकेश के इन पत्रों से जिन पाठकों को किसी विस्फोट या हंगामे की उम्मीद है, उन्हें शायद किसी हद तक निराश होना पड़े। जिन्हें इन दोनों महत्त्वपूर्ण लेखकों और विशेषतः मोहन राकेश के रचनाशील अन्तर्मन को देखने तथा व्यक्तिगत जीवन-संघर्ष को जानने की अपेक्षा होगी, उन्हें इनके दर्शन यहाँ पूरी प्रामाणिकता एवं सहजता के साथ होंगे। तत्कालीन परिवेश, साहित्यिक-आन्दोलनों और हलचलों की तसवीर भी साफ दिखाई देगी। अश्क और राकेश के जीवन, साहित्य और उनके समय में दिलचस्पी रखनेवाले जिज्ञासुओं, अध्येताओं एवं इतिहासकारों को ये पत्र निश्चय ही इतिहास के कालजयी सन्दर्भ-स्रोत जैसे ज़रूरी और दस्तावेज़ी महत्त्व के प्रतीत होंगे। यह पुस्तक वास्तव में ‘राकेश और परिवेश : पत्रों में’ का पुनश्च ही है, और इसे उसकी पूरक के रूप में ही देखा जाना चाहिए।

यह किताब जोतिबा फुले (जोतिराव गोविन्दराव फुले : 1827-1890) की सम्पूर्ण रचनाओं का संग्रह है। सन् 1855 से सन् 1890 तक उन्होंने जितने ग्रन्थों की रचना की, सभी को इसमें संगृहीत किया गया है। उनकी पहली किताब ‘तृतीय रत्न’ (नाटक) सन् 1855 में और अन्तिम ‘सार्वजनिक सत्यधर्म’ सन् 1891 में उनके परिनिर्वाण के बाद प्रकाशित हुई थी। जोतिराव फुले की कर्मभूमि महाराष्ट्र रही है। उन्होंने अपनी सारी रचनाएँ जनसाधारण की बोली मराठी में लिखीं। उनका कार्य और रचनाएँ अपने समय में भी विवादास्पद रहीं और आज भी हैं। लेकिन उनका लेखन हर पीढ़ी में सामाजिक क्रान्ति की चेतना जगाता रहेगा, इसमें कोई सन्देह नहीं। उनकी यह रचनावली उनके कार्य और चिन्तन का ऐतिहासिक दस्तावेज़ है।
