अमीर खुसरो फरसी, अरबी, तुर्की, संस्कृत तथा हिंदी के विद्वान् थे। उनका मूल नाम अबुल हसन था। 'खुसरो' उनका उपनाम था, जो आगे चलकर इतना चर्चित हुआ कि लोग उनका असली नाम ही भूल गए |जलालुद्दीन खिलजी ने उनकी कविता से प्रसन्न होकर उन्हें 'अमीर' का खिताब दिया, तब से वे 'अमीर खुसरो' कहे जाने लगे । खुसरो ने दस वर्ष की उम्र में ही काव्य-रचना शुरू कर दी थी। उन्होंने दर्शन, धर्मशास्त्र, इतिहास, युद्धविद्या, व्याकरण, ज्योतिष, संगीत आदि का गहन अध्ययन किया। उनकी पुस्तक 'लैला मजनू' से पता चलता है कि उनकी एक पुत्री तथा तीन पुत्र थे। खुसरो में देशप्रेम कूट-कूटकर भरा था। उन्हें अपनी मातृभूति भारत पर बड़ा गर्व था। उन्होंने एक स्थान पर कहा है-'मैं हिंदुस्तान की तूती हूँ। अगर तुम वास्तव में मुझसे जानना चाहते हो तो हिंदवी में पूछो, मैं तुम्हें अनुपम बातें बता सकूँगा।' खुसरो ने कई लाख शेर लिखे । इनकी कृतियों की संख्या ९९ बताई जाती है, परंतु अभी तक ४५ कृतियों का ही पता चला है। अमीर खुसरो एक बहुत अच्छे गायक और संगीतशास्त्री भी थे। संगीत के वाद्य और गेय दोनों ही क्षेत्रों में इनका योगदान रहा है। कई भाषाओं के प्रकांड विद्वान् और आपसी सद्भाव के प्रतीक अमीर खुसरो के जीवन-प्रसंग और उनके रचनासंसार से परिचित करानेवाली अनुपम पुस्तक।

भारत के सभी सत्ताधारी वर्णाश्रम धर्म के मौन समर्थक हैं, ऐसा नहीं है, मुझे ऐसा लगता है कि वर्णाश्रम धर्म, वर्तमान सत्ताधारी पार्टी की विचारधारा, हिन्दुत्व, का अभिन्न अंग है। इसके प्रवक्ता गोलवलकर ने साफ शब्दों में लिखा था कि वर्ण और आश्रम, समाज में हिन्दू ढाँचे की विशेषताएँ हैं।
भारत में हिन्दुत्ववादी आन्दोलन के समर्थक वर्ण, आश्रम और जाति-प्रथा के सार्वजनिक व्यख्याता और प्रशंसक हैं। अगर नरमपंथी—हिन्दू राष्ट्रवादी, वर्णाश्रम धर्म के विरोध में हैं, तो वे हिन्दुत्व के प्रखर विरोध के लिए आगे क्यों नहीं आते हैं! और समतामूलक सोच और समाज का अभियान क्यों नहीं चलाते? यह ग्रंथ और पेरियार ललई सिंह का चिन्तन इसी बात को चरितार्थ करता है।

शरीर की आवश्यकता से अधिक कैलोरी वाला या अधिक चर्बीयुक्त भोजन वज़न बढ़ाने में सहायक होता है। यहाँ तक कि केवल 20 ग्राम वाला एक ब्रेड का टुकड़ा यदि अतिरिक्त मात्रा में रोज़ खाया जाए तो वह वज़न बढ़ा सकता है। इसी तरह 20 मिनट पैदल चलनेवाला व्यक्ति कार से जाने लगे या पैदल चलना छोड़ दे तो भी उसका वज़न बढ़ सकता है। दस वर्षों के दौरान ली गई अतिरिक्त 48 किलो कैलोरी से 20 किलो चर्बी शरीर में जमा हो सकती है। बच्चों में चाकलेट और फास्ट-फूड खाने की आदतें भी वज़न बढ़ाने में सहायक होती हैं। आए दिन होनेवाली पार्टियों में जानेवाले लोग अकसर ज़रूरत से ज़्यादा खा जाते हैं, यह अधिक खाना उनका वज़न बढ़ाने में सहायक होता है। कुछ लोग तनाव या समस्याओं के कारण भी ज़्यादा खा जाते हैं। इसी तरह कई लोग अच्छे स्वाद के कारण भी अधिक भोजन करते हैं। कई लोगों में एक ग़लत धारणा प्रचलित है कि स्वस्थ रहने के लिए ख़ूब खाना चाहिए और फिर ख़ूब खानेवाली धारणा उन्हें मोटा बना देती है।
