It is the first Hindi dictionary that contains :

(a) all simple verbs (e.g. आना, जाना, मरना...), as well as

(b) all compound verbs (e.g. group II : चल देना, डूब मरना, भगा ले जाना, उठ खड़ा होना...) and group II : दे भगाना, ले चलना, ले डूबना...) of the present standard language, in both its written and spoken form.

The laxical meanings of all simple and compound verbs :

(a) age given in detail in English and

(b) are illustrated by representative examples of their employment taken from written and spoken taxts.

The compound verbs of group I, e.g., चल देना, डूब मरना, etc., have, in most cases, the same lexical meaning(s) as the first verb of them when this one is used as an autonomous lexeme, e.g. : डूबना⁴ = डूब मरना¹, both meaning, here, ''to drown oneself''; the difference between these two verb forms ties in their grammatical, i.e., above all, aspectual, meanings, but also in their lexical properties and their syntactic and pragmatic functions; the compound verbs of group II, e.g., दे भगाना, ले डूबना etc. are isolated lexemes, i.e., they do not have the same lexical meaning(s) as their first member when this one is used autonomously or alone.

These phenomena cannot be fully demonstrated by the lexical equivalents of the Hindi verbs in English, therefore they are, as far as possible, additionally explained (a) in the 'Introduction' of the dictionary, (b) in the entries of the verb lexemes and (c) by means of the textual examples of their usage.

The dictionary will fill an important gap in the analysis and description of Hindi and thus it will prove to be an indipensable work for all speakers, learners and teachers of Hindi whether in India or abroad.

वर्णमालात्‍मक लिपियाँ ई.पू. दसवीं सदी के आस-पास पहली बार सामने आती हैं। तब से आज तक लिपियों का विशेष विकास नहीं हुआ। बहुत-सी पुरालिपियाँ मर गईं, उनका ज्ञान भी लुप्त हो गया। पिछले क़रीब दो सौ वर्षों में संसार के अनेक पुरालिपिविदों ने पुनः उन पुरालिपियों का उद्घाटन किया है।

इस ग्रन्थ में गुणाकर जी ने मुख्यतः संसार की प्रमुख पुरालिपियों की जानकारी दी है। पाठक इससे जान जाएँगे कि किस देश में कौन-सी लिपि का अस्तित्व था, उसका स्वरूप कैसा था, उसके संकेत या अक्षर कैसे थे और आधुनिक काल में उन पुरालिपियों का उद्घाटन कैसे हुआ। पुस्तक के दूसरे खंड में भारतीय लिपियों की जानकारी है। आरम्भ में सिन्धु लिपि (अज्ञात) तथा खरोष्ठी लिपि का विवरण है। फिर ब्राह्मी लिपि के उद्भव तथा विकास के बारे में यथासम्भव पूरी जानकारी दी गई है। पुस्तक का परिशिष्ट संसार के प्रमुख भाषा-परिवारों पर केन्द्रित है। भाषा सम्बन्धी जिज्ञासु पाठकों और छात्रों के लिए प्रामाणिक तथ्यों, चित्रों और तालिकाओं से समृद्ध यह पुस्तक निश्चित रूप से उपादेय होगी।

कम्प्यूटर व सूचना प्रौद्योगिकी आज प्रमुख व आधार विषय हैं। इनका अध्ययन व प्रयोग अच्छी नौकरी या व्यवसाय की गारंटी है। आज भारतीय सॉफ़्टवेयर विशेषज्ञों ने पूरे विश्व में झंडा गाड़ रखा है। अन्य विषयों के अध्ययन व प्रयोग में भी कम्प्यूटरों व सूचना प्रौद्योगिकी का भरपूर उपयोग होता है। हालाँकि भारत के बड़े क्षेत्र में बिजली का भारी अभाव है पर फिर भी कम्प्यूटर व सूचना प्रौद्योगिकी की पहुँच दूर-दूर तक बढ़ रही है। इससे कार्य पद्धति वैज्ञानिक हो रही है और पारदर्शिता भी आ रही है। ‘कम्प्यूटर व सूचना प्रौद्योगिकी शब्दकोश’ इस दिशा में एक विनम्र प्रयास है। इसका मूल उद्देश्य है अपनी भाषा में शिक्षा ग्रहण करनेवालों के लिए उच्च शिक्षा प्राप्ति हेतु एक बफर के रूप में कार्य करना। इस शब्दकोश के माध्यम से कम्प्यूटर व सूचना प्रौद्योगिकी के क्षेत्र में प्रयुक्त शब्दों व शब्दावलियों के बारे में पर्याप्त समझ विकसित हो जाएगी जिससे वे आगे की शिक्षा अंग्रेज़ी या किसी अन्य भाषा के माध्यम से ग्रहण कर पाएँगे।
