एक विशेष प्रकार की सूमनियत के बावजूद ये विराग में जाकर अपना उत्कर्ष पाते हैं। इसलिए उदास भी होते हैं तो अगरबत्ती की तरह ताकि जलें तो भी एक ख़ुशबू दे सकें औरों के लिए।
गुलज़ार की यह सारी मौलिकता और अपनापन इसलिए भी और-और महत्त्वपूर्ण जान पड़ती है क्योंकि वे अपनी संवेदनशीलता और शब्द फ़िल्मों में लेकर आए हैं।
बेशुमार दौलत और शोहरत की व्यावसायिक चकाचौंध में जहाँ लोकप्रियता का अपना पैमाना है, वहाँ साहित्य की संवेदनात्मक, मार्मिक तथा मानव हृदय से जुड़े हर्ष-विषाद की जैसी काव्यात्मक अभिव्यक्ति गुलज़ार के हाथों हुई, वह अपने आप में एक अद्वितीयता का प्रतीक बन गई है।

- Description: साहित्य में मंज़रनामा एक मुकम्मिल फ़ॉर्म है। यह एक ऐसी विधा है जिसे पाठक बिना किसी रुकावट के रचना का मूल आस्वाद लेते हुए पढ़ सकें। लेकिन मंज़रनामा का अन्दाज़े-बयान अमूमन मूल रचना से अलग हो जाता है या यूँ कहें कि वह मूल रचना का इन्टरप्रेटेशन हो जाता है। मंज़रनामा पेश करने का एक उद्देश्य तो यह है कि पाठक इस फ़ॉर्म से रू-ब-रू हो सकें और दूसरा यह कि टी.वी. और सिनेमा में दिलचस्पी रखनेवाले लोग यह देख-जान सकें कि किसी कृति को किस तरह मंज़रनामे की शक्ल दी जाती है। टी.वी. की आमद से मंज़रनामों की ज़रूरत में बहुत इज़ाफ़ा हो गया है। यह बाल मनोविज्ञान पर आधारित ‘परिचय’ फ़िल्म का मंज़रनामा है। पाँच बच्चों और उनके दादा (बाबा) के मध्य चल रहे मौन संघर्ष का इस फ़िल्म में प्रभावशाली मनोविश्लेषण किया गया है। बाल मन को कठोर अनुशासन में रखने पर प्रत्येक क्रिया के विरुद्ध प्रतिक्रिया हो सकती है जिसका दूरगामी प्रभाव ख़तरनाक भी हो सकता है। बाल स्वभाव के अन्तर्गत उनके द्वारा किए गए क्रिया-कलाप पाठक के मन में एक गुदगुदी भी पैदा करते हैं और सोचने पर बाध्य भी करते हैं कि बच्चों की कोमल भावनाओं पर अनुशासन की दृष्टि से कितनी कठोरता दिखाई जाए। यह मंज़रनामा बच्चों के माध्यम से बड़ों को भी सबक़ सिखाता है और एक दिशा भी देता है कि उन दोनों के बीच किस तरह का रिश्ता हो।
