It was a time of turmoil when several Adivasis in the Chhotanagpur region fell prey to the false preaching of the Christian churches and were forced to embrace Christianity. It was a ploy by the British to convert Adivasis to Christianity to stem protests. Birsa Munda and his family also believed in preaching initially and converted to Christianity. Soon, however, Birsa saw through the trickery and not merely did he convert to Hinduism again, but he also convinced several Adivasis. They had converted to Christianity to embrace Hinduism again. It was this Birsa Munda who later became the "God" of the Adivasis and came to be regarded as "Dharti-Aba" or "Father of the Universe." In an attempt to capture Birsa, the British administration was jolted and announced a reward of Rs 500 for his arrest. The British trick worked, and some greedy informers of the British caught Birsa when he was sleeping at night. - Description: "डॉ. भीमराव अंबेडकर को भारत में दलितों के मसीहा के रूप में देखा जाता है । सन् 1947 में उन्हें संविधान सभा द्वारा स्वतंत्र भारत के लिए संविधान का प्रारूप तैयार करने के लिए गठित प्रारूपण समिति का अध्यक्ष बनाया गया । संविधान के निर्माण में उनकी महत्त्वपूर्ण भूमिका रही । उनका जन्म वर्तमान मध्य प्रदेश के एक छोटे से कस्बे महू (इंदौर के निकट) में 14 अप्रैल, 1891 को हुआ था । वे पिता सूबेदार रामजी एवं माँ भीमाबाई शकपाल की चौदहवीं संतान थे । महार जाति का होने के कारण उन्हें ' अछूत ' समझा जाता था । उनके पिता और दादा ने ब्रिटिश सेना में नौकरी की थी । तत्कालीन सरकार द्वारा सभी सैन्य-कर्मियों के बच्चों की शिक्षा हेतु अच्छे स्कूलों का प्रबंध किया गया था । इसलिए निम्न जाति के होने के बावजूद उन्हें अच्छी शिक्षा प्राप्त हुई । सन् 1937 में डॉ अंबेडकर ने कोंकण क्षेत्र में महारों के सरकारी गुलाम के रूप में काम करने की ' खोती प्रथा ' को समाप्त करने के लिए एक विधेयक पेश किया । 1947 में भारत के स्वतंत्र होने पर उन्होंने कानून मंत्री के पद को सुशोभित किया । उन्होंने आह्वान किया, ' छीने हुए अधिकार भीख में नहीं मिलते, अधिकार वसूल करना होता है । ' उनके उल्लेखनीय कार्यों के लिए वर्ष 1990 में मरणोपरांत उन्हें भारत के सर्वोच्च नागरिक सम्मान ' भारत रत्न ' से सम्मानित किया गया । प्रस्तुत है गरीब, असहाय तथा दबे- कुचलों को ऊपर उठानेवाले एक सच्चे मसीहा की प्रेरणास्पद एवं पठनीय रोचक जीवनी । "

- Description: "श्रीलाल शुक्ल जितने बड़े व्यंग्यकार हैं, उतने ही सशक्त कहानीकार भी, जिनकी कहानियों का बिल्कुल अलग अंदाज है, जिनमें एक धीमा-धीमा व्यंग्य अकसर घुला-मिला होता है। इससे कहानी जो कुछ कहती है, उसके अलावा भी कई और दिशाएँ और आशय खुलते हैं, जिनमें जीवन की विसंगतियाँ, मनुष्य की भीतरी उधेड़बुन और न कही जा सकने वाली मानव-मन की गुत्थियाँ भी शामिल हैं। श्रीलाल शुक्ल ने गाँव हो या शहर, महानगरीय उच्च वर्ग का अहं हो या निचले और मेहनतकश वर्ग की गहरी तकलीफें, सबको बहुत पास से देखा और सबकी भीतर की सचाइयों पर उनकी पैनी नजर रखी। इसी से उनकी कहानियों में यथार्थ के इतने बहुविध रूप सामने आते हैं कि ताज्जुब होता है। और यही नहीं, श्रीलालजी की कहानियों में शिल्प के इतने रूप हैं कि आप कह सकते हैं कि अपनी हर कहानी में वे शिल्प की एक अलग काट और भाषा के अलग अंदाज के साथ उपस्थित हैं। यह क्षमता और कलात्मक सामर्थ्य बहुत कम कथाकारों में देखने को मिलती है। ‘छुट्टियाँ’ और ‘यह घर मेरा नहीं है’ में उनकी भाषा का जो रंग है, वही ‘लखनऊ’, ‘कुत्ते और कुत्ते’, ‘यहाँ से वहाँ’ या ‘नसीहतें’ कहानियों में नहीं है और ‘उमरावनगर में एक दिन’ कहानी में तो श्रीलालजी भाषा के खिलंदड़ेपन के साथ सचमुच एक नया ही शिल्प गढ़ते नजर आते हैं। सच तो यह है कि श्रीलाल शुक्ल के कहानीकार को ठीक-ठीक समझा ही नहीं गया। इस संचयन में उनकी कुल पंद्रह कहानियाँ शामिल हैं, जिनमें सभी का रंग और अंदाज अलग-अलग है और कोशिश रही है कि उनके कहानीकार का हर रंग और अंदाज पाठकों के आगे आए।
